Russian Presence Near Undersea Cables Concerns U.S.
Ny Times ^ | OCT. 25, 2015 | DAVID E. SANGER and ERIC SCHMITT

Russian submarines and spy ships are aggressively operating near the vital undersea cables that carry almost all global Internet communications, raising concerns among some American military and intelligence officials that the Russians might be planning to attack those lines in times of conflict.

The issue goes beyond old Cold War worries that the Russians would tap into the cables — a task American intelligence agencies also mastered decades ago. The alarm today is deeper: In times of tension or conflict, the ultimate Russian hack on the United States could involve severing the fiber-optic cables at some of their hardest-to-access locations to halt the instant communications on which the West’s governments, economies and citizens have grown dependent.

Seems cutting the cables would be a self defeating move. Now tapping into them would be better scenario. But I guess that's been happening for a long time.

The good news is that if the Internet was cut your kids might even have to talk to again. Dude, where's my Facebook? Of course FR would be down also. Time to panic.

One of these days Russia is going to ask for more than they expect. The next war will be so destructive that all sides will suffer almost total destruction. Idiots in Russia just don’t get it. Any WWIII will destroy most of the earth. There will be no winner.

What’s goes around comes around. Both sides did this stuff for the entire Cold War but the Soviets were really lousy at it, often doing something that caused our side to go - “oh, they’re at (so and so Lat-Long) again.” Better go patch it.

Check out the history of a top-secret U.S. military operation called "Operation Ivy Bells."

The whole thing was eventually compromised by an NSA employee named Robert Pelton who sold out to the Soviets in the early 1980s.

The opening hours of WWIII would be a true SHTF event.

Russia severing our communication cables. CHICOMs taking out our satellites. Iran, NK detonating EMP nukes above our skies. ISIS and their derivatives activating cells to do whatever.

They may not wait for a “time of conflict.” We did it to them and we tapped into their undersea phone lines in the North Sea with our submarines big time back in the day.

Very much to be concerned over and then on top of all those threats we now have a new closer to home threat; Syrian refugees constantly pelting us with those damn rocks.

Rig the cables so any tampering results in detonation of nearby mines buried in the sea floor with a concussive force that rises directly upward.

Perhaps it is time for Hillary to be back at the Sec. of State job. Maybe this time she could get the reset button idea perfected.

We’ve tapped theirs. They might actually find out some things about some of our wayward leaders we should know.

The only button should should be involved with should be the one hooked to the electric chair she’s strapped into.
