"I've resisted the idea that Donald Trump could and would become the Republican nominee," writes GOP strategist Alex Castellanos in an email assessment of the presidential race. "Unhappily, I've changed my mind."
Castellanos, who once said flatly that "Trump is not going to be the nominee," writes "the odds of Trump's success have increased and been validated in the past few weeks."

There is one problem with that. Obama is such a narcissist He would NEVER do it!
Those 70% others divide their support among other 14 candidates, with GOPe candidates receiving 50% and Cruz receiving 5% and Carson receiving 15%. Logic says, if Trump drops out, those 65% will find another GOPe backed candidate.
By your logic, 95% do not support Cruz.
Clinton and Sanders together had $60.1 million on hand at the end of September. Meanwhile, the 15 Republicans combined reported having $61.2 million in the bank....Carson raised the most in the Republican field last quarter, scooping up $20.8 million. He still fell short of the totals posted by Clinton ($29.5 million) and Sanders ($26.2 million).
Other GOP candidates trail behind: Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas ($12.2 million), former Hewlett-Packard chief executive Carly Fiorina ($6.8 million), Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida ($5.7 million), Ohio Gov. John Kasich ($4.4 million), New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie ($4.2 million) and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky ($2.5 million).
One of the Democrats major structural advantages is the size of their small-donor bases. A staggering 650,000 individuals have given Sanders money already, while nearly 400,000 have donated to Clinton, her campaign said Thursday.
For good or ill, this election is Trump’s to lose.. no establishment candidate is going to have any shot.... and the others like Cruz, who are hard conservative and cite taking on the party leadership lack the charisma and X factor to beat out Trump for the nomination... and will have bigger issues in a general if they did.
Trump is crossing the lines, he’s attracting blue dog democrats long ago abandoned/taken for granted by their part, and a viable option for disenfranchised republicans as well and is doing well with swing voters because he’s talking about putting America first.
He’s not only marching to the Republican nomination, but with opponents who like Hillary or Sanders he’s setting up an Electoral College victory on election day that will rival Reagan’s re-election.
This will be a battle royale. Not a movie not a game not entertainment, but the final epic battle of good vs evil in America. This will be our last chance.
There’s a man with a gun over there.....
Do you really see that haughty, arrogant Obama resigning even one day early and forfeiting his daily TV spots and Mooshie’s perks?
We are the HUGE base that is supporting him, Trump is the only one that has put 2 different plans out, the Second Amendment plan and the tax plan; he has called out the immigration problem and solved the problem with returning ALL illegal immigrants back to where they came from, building a wall, and then and only THEN they can apply for citizenship into OUR COUNTRY the LEGAL way; he has said he will wipe obamacare off the map and give the American People a plan that they can afford; he has shown us how the media and others lie about what we read and hear; he has shown us and told us what he will do about our manufacturing jobs with Mexico, Japan, China and other countries so OUR people will have jobs; he has shown us that the illegal immigrants are treated better than our vets who have given US our freedoms with their lives, and the wounded warriors; he doesn't speak AT us, he speaks FOR us, and he is supporting his own campaign which gives him the right to speak his mind, unlike the other candidates what have to say what their handlers are telling them to say....
Trump says: MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and that's what WE his HUGE support base is behind him on!!!
As I said in my first post, the question is, as the other dozen candidates drop out, will their supporters switch to Trump or one of the other remaining candidates.
I think that Cruz’s strategy is not to try and take supporters away from Trump, but to take supporters from the other candidates as they drop out.
Trump is not going to drop out unless another candidate locks in more than 50% of the vote. That is not going to happen until nearly all of the other candidates have dropped out.
Trump can afford to self fund his campaign as long as he wants. All of the other candidates have to keep increasing their percentages in the polls if they want to keep getting contributions.
My bet is that the last three remaining candidates will be Trump, Bush and Cruz. Only after Bush is forced out will Trump and Cruz start fighting over each other’s supporters.
As a side note to this thread, please consider the following.
Patriots need to bear the following in mind if Trump is elected president. Regardless if Trump is elected president, it remains that the president has no constitutional authority to impeach and remove activist justices from the bench. That’s Congresss job. But because of the 17th Amendment, Congress now needs the help of patriot voters to fire activist justices.
More specifically, patriots must elect a constitutionally required 2/3 conservative Senate supermajority, while maining a conservative majority in the House, in order for Congress to be able to impeach and remove activist justices from the bench.
If patriots can succeed in doing this, then Trump will be looking at nominating at least five state sovereignty-respecting justices to the Supreme Court while he is in office.
And while Trump and a conservative Senate rebuild the Supreme Court, patriots can be working with state and federal lawmakers to amend the Constitution to repeal the 17th Amendment, that ill-conceived amendment facilitating corrupt politicians winning senate seats and confirming activist justices to the Court.
You are absolutely correct about why WE are behind him, however the BIG bonus in ALL of this is the GOP-E heads are ALL exploding they CAN’T stop him because he is SELF FUNDED!!!!! I JUST LOVE the PAYBACK in ALL of this!!!!!
I get that popup on my screen, but it is about 7 inches wide, and maybe 1/2 inch high. It is also somewhat transparent, and I can read text through it.
I thought he was a clown, blowhard, bloviator, pretender, joke... At least that is what all these people have been telling me for the last four months.
How can a 5% candidate garner majority of votes towards nomination? It makes no logical sense. But anything can happen in politics, so I give Cruz more than 0% chance of winning nomination.
I think in the next couple of weeks your going to see more of Trump calling out the candidates like he has with Jeb, he’s just getting started....
The closer to the nomination, then your going to see the LEADER in Trump....
And other funny thing about Trump, he doesn’t have to say much for the candidate to take himself out...or herself...
Jeb is using the 9/11 remarks for a campaign ad if you can believe how slimy that jerk is:
