Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) says he's tired of questions about whether hes a socialist, asking why more people don't want Republicans to defend themselves as capitalists.
The self-proclaimed Democratic socialist said he is ready to take on Wall St. and corporate America in the first Democratic primary debate on Tuesday.
He said he wants to talk about his record in Congress of standing up for working class families and the middle class" and his willingness "to take on virtually every aspect of corporate America.
If elected president, Sanders said he will force Republicans in Congress to compromise by lining up a million young people demonstrating and marching in Washington to protest for affordable higher education.
I think we can do it, he said. And I think thats what the bully pulpit is about. And thats what organizing efforts about. And thats what this campaign is about.
Sanders pointed to his track record of going after Wall St. as a distinguishing characteristic between himself and Democratic primary front-runner Hillary Clinton.
Whose track record for the last 25 years has been to say to Wall St., You know what? We are going to have to break up the large financial institution.
He also differentiated himself from the Democratic field by pointing out he has been opposed to the Keystone Pipeline and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) from day one.
From day one, I opposed the Keystone Pipeline because I believe if youre serious about climate change, you dont encourage the excavation and transportation of very dirty oil, Sanders said. That was my view from day one.
Sanders also lauded Pope Francis for his efforts to raise awareness about climate change and poverty on his recent U.S. tour.
The senator said he admires the social programs in nations like Denmark and Sweden, and he thinks we can look to those countries for guidance.
Great Idea let’s get that discussion going! Is Hillary a Socialist or a Capitalist or just a thief?
“Ask Bernie where he invests his loot. “
Ah yes. The irony.
Self proclaimed socialist isn’t so much when it comes to his money, and the supposed capitalists aren’t all that non-socialist themselves.
So with everything going so well in the country (100 mil. people without a job) lets go after the few company’s that are still here. The communists in China and Europe are doing so well lets bring it to America. Bernie the CLOWN!
I'd be interested in seeing a Republican justify being something, anything, else.
What a jackhole, anyone who gets out of bed in the morning to earn a living is a capitalist... anyone who subsidizes their lifestyle by accepting earnings legally confiscated from me is a capitalist. Anyone who buys anything from anywhere is a capitalist. In short, unless your dead, chances are you’re a capitalist.
Capitalism doesn’t need defending; it works. Socialism does not. Bernie is a foolish old bast—d.
No need to ask socialist, because we live in a Capitalist country and we are proud of that, unlike you who wants failed Socialism.
A true socialist would divest himself of wealth. Maybe send it off to Venezuela or something. Hypocrite.
Yes! Crony capitalists!
All dictators claim they are for the little people. That’s the problem with socialists.....they see people as little and unable to think or do for themselves.
Dear Bernie,
Your perspective is subjective.
“Twenty-five years and my life is still
Trying to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination
I realized quickly when I knew I should
That the world was made up of this brotherhood of man
For whatever that means
And so I cry sometimes
When I’m lying in bed just to get it all out
What’s in my head
And I, I am feeling a little peculiar
And so I wake in the morning
And I step outside
And I take a deep breath and I get real high
And I scream from the top of my lungs
What’s going on?
And I say, hey yeah yeah, hey yeah yeah
I said hey, what’s going on?
And I say, hey yeah yeah, hey yeah yeah
I said hey, what’s going on?
Oh, oh oh
Oh, oh oh
And I try, oh my god do I try
I try all the time, in this institution
And I pray, oh my god do I pray
I pray every single day
For a revolution.
And so I cry sometimes
When I’m lying bed
Just to get it all out
What’s in my head
And I, I am feeling a little peculiar
And so I wake in the morning
And I step outside
And I take a deep breath and I get real high
And I scream from the top of my lungs
What’s going on?
And I say, hey hey hey hey
I said hey, what’s going on?
And I say, hey hey hey hey
I said hey, what’s going on?
And I say, hey hey hey hey
I said hey, what’s going on?
And I say, hey hey hey hey
I said hey, what’s going on?
Oh, oh oh oh
Twenty-five years and my life is still
Trying to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination”

Yeah, let's force universities to admit (and graduate) a million dumb freshmen whose parents are too dumb to get good jobs. Dumb parents, dumb kids, and Bernie wants them all to get Bachelor's degrees.
I don’t no one republican that would be embarrassed to say they are capitalists Bernie Sanders. I no plenty of democrats that if asked if they were socialists would not want to answer and I no plenty of communists that claim they are just socialists.
Absolutely correct. A great line for Trump or Cruz in a sound bite.
Okay. Are Republicans capitalists? Yes.
I would love to know how much Bernie is worth and if he’s willing to “Spread his own wealth around” since he loves Socialism so much, perhaps he would be willing to wait in line in Venezuela for some TP, can be a few hours wait but hey, good thing Bernie has hands to use in the meantime
Think I saw another thread where Bernie’s wife was quite the capitalist when she raped a local college, almost sent them BK due to her bad decisions, and then left with a hefty retirement package.
Gee, how can Bernie explain that?
Bernie,
No. We are Americans who support our republic.
Capitalist as a descriptive term was popularized by Marx. While its later general usage is not something we would disassociate ourselves from, it is not a belief system like socialism.
