Carson: 'I Would Establish a No-Fly Zone' Along Turkish Border
Newsmax ^ | 10/8/15 | Bill Hoffmann

Dr. Ben Carson has joined the growing chorus of outrage over Russian President Vladimir Putin's military muscle flexing, telling Newsmax TV a no-fly zone should be created along the Turkish border.

A sophisticated missile defense system should also be put in place to keep Russia's fighter jets in check, according to Carson, a retired pediatric neurosurgeon seeking the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.

"Vladimir Putin has expansionist ideas. He wants to really re-establish a worldwide Soviet influence," Carson told Newsmax TV's Steve Malzberg in an interview aired Thursday.

"He was very unhappy with the dissolution [of the Soviet Union]. Now he's looking for weakness. What we need to do is demonstrate that there is no weakness there."

And that means putting the kibosh on Russia's bullying of surrounding nations, he believes.

"We need to stand our ground with the airspace. I would establish a no-fly zone along the border with Turkey, in no way would I back off," Carson said.

So, we want to establish a no-fly zone over a country we are not at war with, to prevent the legitimate government of that country from fighting civil war against it.

Have I got that correct?

Does that sound like a good idea?

I know my history very well. If you want to justify your desire for Imperial behavior, be my guest. Because your statement stands in direct contradiction with the founders. If you wish to fantasize you know better than they, thats your call.

No where did the founders ever express an intent to keep anywhere but America out of the hands of China, Russia or anyone else. Thats history. Thats fact. Thats what “Avoid foreign entanglements” means. And it’s not arguable by you or anyone else.

Then I guess we had no business joining the WWI and WWII conflicts right?

You’re way over your head Norm.

Hey if you want to make a fool of yourself comparing WW1/2 with Syria, be my guest. Because god knows we all see the similarities.

Well you do. The rest of us arent that self deluded.

Norm, you were the one pushing the “no foreign entanglements” line.

You do recall that right?

While you’re at it, please link me to a post where I advocated the U. S. becoming involved in Syria.

Every part of the world is our part of the world.

It’s either our part or it’s Russia’s and China’s part.

I opt for “ours”.
...............

Syria is part of the world.

Norm, that was just sad.

I never said we had to engage in every conflict.

Seriously, you thought that was going to fly?

LOL

Is Trump the ONLY candidate in this race, dim or GOP, to say “Just get out”?

Well then please explain how we do anything to carry out your cunning Imperial plan. Happy thoughts?

Or do you just spout random crap involving America controlling global affairs without thinking it through?

I’ll leave you to the ‘win’ on this you’ll impotently claim. There’s no point in taking you seriously anymore..

And? Contradicts nothing I sad here. You want to make a point about America becoming imperial and I countered it.

We were there. What we should have done once there and what we did there are different things. Had we blown it to hell to begin with we’d not have to go.

Try to keep up.

"Welcome to the Shiite PERSIAN Spring."

Iraq right after Syria and before Jordan.

Except I don't think the Saudis will be able to accept a fully Iranian client in Iraq.

That's why we have ISIS.

We do as we have over the years since WWII.  We weigh each situation and determine if it makes strategic sense to become involved.  When it does, we kick ass and get the campaign over with.  We don't hobble our men.

Or do you just spout random crap involving America controlling global affairs without thinking it through?

No Norm, that would be you and your "no foreign entanglements" nonsense.  If Jefferson could see the value in taking on North African elements in his day when the world was massively larger, then we can in a time when the world is tiny by comparison.

I’ll leave you to the ‘win’ on this you’ll impotently claim. There’s no point in taking you seriously anymore.

I don't generally claim a win.  I simply make my case until it's crystal clear.

As for you taking me serious, that's okay.  I'll suffer the loss somehow.

Am I supposed to be sad South Koreans live in a free society?

Am I supposed to be sad that South Vietnam could have had the same thing?

Am I supposed to be sad we became involved in Iraq?

Sorry Norm, these things don't make me sad.

It only makes me sad when our leaders screw things up when we have the capability to win.

We cannot be a pacifist miser nation.  That would leave Russia and China to set up their idea of a perfect planet, and that would not be perfect.  Those are ruthless nations whether you can see that or not.

“No Norm, that would be you and your “no foreign entanglements” nonsense. “

The words of the founders are “nonsense”

I will leave it at that. No more needs be said.

Exactly.
Taking sides with some Muslims against other Muslims, none of whom like us or have our interests in mind at all.

I don’t see why we need to do that.

Several reasons and all of them bad.

The lie was put out by Bush and has since been backed by both parties that Islam id a religion of peace. A lot of policy domestically and internationally, laws passed etc. have been based on that lie.

We now, thanks to stupidly entangling ourselves against the founders clear admonishments, have to find some muslims to ‘prove’ it. Because if we cannot hang our hat on one group of them or another, someone will have to eventually be held to account for it. Namely all the pols that pushed it to the detrement of the planet.
