Poll: Should Christians Arm Themselves?

Some people seems to think that Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey of Tennessee said something controversial when he suggested that these are troubled times; that Christians are under attack, and that it would be wise for Christians to obtain a concealed carry permit and be willing to defend themselves.  From the timesfreepress.com:

“Whether the perpetrators are motivated by aggressive secularism, jihadist extremism or racial supremacy, their targets remain the same: Christians and defenders of the West,” he wrote.

“While this is not the time for widespread panic,” Ramsey added, “it is a time to prepare. I would encourage my fellow Christians who are serious about their faith to think about getting a handgun carry permit. I have always believed that it is better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it. “Our enemies are armed,” he added. “We must do likewise.”

Sen. Ramsey is the LT Gov, he has rammed through some of the best gun laws any state could envy.

We became a Red state just a couple election cycles ago. Ramsey and his right hand man Sen. Mark Norris just kept chipping away at the damage the libs had done to the 2nd Amendment in Tennessee.

We are also an State Income Tax Free zone. Sales tax only unless you are an investor type then the Halls tax will hit you.

Let’s see; disarmed Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, Christians, etc. went over well for the armed enemy Nazis and their sympathizers. For those disarmed, not so much.

With respect, I'm still waiting for somebody, anybody to point out where in the Constitution that says I need a license to own any weapon?

Concealed or not.

And just for the record:

(a) Firearm The term “firearm” means
(1) a shotgun having a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length;
(2) a weapon made from a shotgun if such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length;
(3) a rifle having a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length;
(4) a weapon made from a rifle if such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length;
(5) any other weapon, as defined in subsection (e);
(6) a machinegun;
(7) any silencer (as defined in section 921 of title 18, United States Code); and
(8) a destructive device. The term “firearm” shall not include an antique firearm or any device (other than a machinegun or destructive device) which, although designed as a weapon, the Secretary finds by reason of the
date of its manufacture, value, design, and other characteristics is primarily a collector’s item and is not likely to be used as a weapon.

26 U.S. Code § 5845

I went to church yesterday morning and evening was was packing a 9mm both times. Our pastor and deacons have encouraged members with CCW’s to carry but be discreet for the last five or six years. I carried anyway before they asked me.

“With respect, I’m still waiting for somebody, anybody to point out where in the Constitution that says I need a license to own any weapon?”

You won’t find it. The closest is the 10th amendment. Early on, state courts believed that the Second Amendment applied to State laws. About 1830, the Supreme Court ruled that the Bill of Rights did not apply to the states, and you started to get some restrictions on the carry of arms. Laws against concealed carry, laws against black people carrying.

Texas had a strong state constitution provision about carrying arms; in 1859, they ruled that even slaves had the right to keep and bear arms.

Then we had the War between the States, or Civil War, and in the aftermath, the 14th amendment was passed, in part to insure that the states could not infringe on the right to keep and bear arms.

The Supreme Court essentially ruled the 14th void for the bill of rights, and lots of laws were passed in the former Confederacy requiring permits and having various restrictions on carrying arms, mostly aimed at former slaves.

Then, in the early “progressive era” from about 1910-1928, a large number of Northern states passed laws restricting the carry of arms to protect organized crime in the big cities (Sullivan law) and to disarm immigrants from southern Europe.

In 1934, Roosevelt pushed through the first significant national gun control law, followed by Johnson pushing through an even worse one in 1968.

And there we are.

The Jews were repeatedly given permission and even ordered to arm themselves to defend their lives, such as in the story of Ester.
The right to life includes the right to DEFEND it, or else it is meaningless.

It should be obvious. Our ruling class elites - Ivy League, the media, and leftist pols (who claim to be a bastion for tolerance), display a broad bigotry and dislike for Christians as a group and culture. Their ultimate goal is to remove and replace us in the halls of power, at cabinet level policy making, and most importantly the adjudication of the law of the land.

They preach political correctness, tolerance, and acceptability while they promote a mission to disarm, neuter us politically and economically ( wedding cake bakers, etc ). Average hard working Anglo Christians become their target of criticism only because they may have more traditional values.
