Trump: Armed teachers could have stopped Oregon massacre
CNN ^ | Oct 4 2015 | Eugene Scott

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump said Saturday that had teachers been armed at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, the deadly shooting there this week would not have been as tragic.

Trump has previously cited mental health issues, not guns, as the biggest cause of shootings in the U.S. But his comments on Saturday are his most extensive and emotionally charged about firearms since he launched his campaign in June, as he spoke about his personal gun ownership and elicited his biggest applause of the afternoon in discussing gun rights.

"By the way, it was a gun-free zone," he said at a campaign event in Franklin, Tennessee. "Let me tell you, if you had a couple teachers with guns in that room, you would have been a hell of a lot better off."

I love that photo. There is a hi-res image you can zoom in on and you can see the “go fast” switch on the receiver, making that an M2 carbine, the select-fire version of the M1 Carbine.

Teachers can be trained and be required to be trained to handle these situations with guns. My sister who is a teacher in Florida was trained in this way. Students can be trained and armed and help in these situations, too. Surviving a violent attack is everyone’s job. I hope you are armed and trained so you are not a victim someday. This school in Oregon even disarmed their one security guard!

Obama is bringing over two hundred thousand Muslims from the Syria region. If you are a woman and if you have read what has happened in Sweden and Germany, you are “silly” not to be prepared to defend yourself. He’s also bringing in UN forces to “police” our cities. They are well known for raping and abusing those they are protecting. The Left is playing for keeps. Don’t think you are playing tiddly winks.

Like Israel, EVERY responsible adult should be armed.

And trained.

In my state teachers have to know CPR. They take classes for this.

No different teaching them other ways to ‘save lives’.

Here's what you wrote:

Silly. Teachers should be responsible for teaching, not for defending students against an armed killer.

Although there is no guarantee anything will work 100% against a determined maniac, security guards, experienced and trained, is the best option. Also, screening students entering a school building would have stopped this killer.

Even allowing students to carry, unless they are highly trained, might result in mayhem. Can you imagine a dozen or more students firing in different directions in the same room? Guns in the hands of novices or those uninterested in obtaining the proper training could cause more harm than good.

I replied to this post. And I think...per your post, that I DO know a couple things about you. And I'm not wrong.

Seeing all the replies you have received to your post...I'm not alone.

The first shots were fired from the outside through a window - and killed the teacher first. The first shots were fired from the outside through a window - and killed the teacher first.

So arming the teacher would have proved worthless.

You are arguing like a lib here....

Good Lib conclusion. Sounds familiar.

I am Catholic. Aquinas made it quite clear that pacifism in the face of the imminent death of one of Gods human creations is not only wrong but sinful. Having said that civilians are not trained to attack the ambusher. They are taught to cower in place.

It fits with the evangelical ideal of living in the likeness of Christ as well.

At best, it sounds like a tenuous maybe... what about OTHER teachers? Or a student who knew the teacher had a gun, so he or she retrieved the gun and used it to fight the attacker?

This begs the question, but why are Israeli children not afraid of guns and U.S. kids are *traumatized* by those evil, horrible black guns?

Artcore - Your raging and nasty name calling is indicative of one who is unsure of his convictions...or is a troll? -

If you don’t have the intelligence to discuss things in a civilized way - you should take your own advice - and hop on over to DU.

This is - or was - against Freeper policy.

...”I’m honestly tired of the nastiness and immaturity, myself”....

Yes..it’s just too “thick” on the threads anymore. It’s well beyond vetting or even simply disagreeing.

I watched a couple more of Trumps recent interview videos the other night...he seems to be much more in control of what he wants to say and recognizes now there’s a difference between rallying thousands and giving a good interview where he’s expressing his opinions....and that is refreshing.

"Silly. Teachers should be responsible for teaching, not for defending students against an armed killer."

Speaking of silly...

You think the way things turned out could possibly be worse than ANYTHING that would have happened if a single victim there had been armed???

REALLY???
