Is Mitch McConnell next?

Conservatives at the Values Voter Summit cheered Friday morning when they learned that House Speaker John Boehner was retiring. Friday afternoon, they cheered again when someone suggested the next establishment Republican to lose his job should be Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

"Here's what I say to in response to Speaker Boehner stepping down. Mitch McConnell, it is now your turn," Louisiana Gov. and GOP presidential candidate Bobby Jindal said to raucous applause.

After the news of Boehner's resignation, Arizona Rep. Matt Salmon told reporters he had texted his fellow conservative friend, Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, with the simple message: "the next guy in the crosshairs is probably McConnell."

The Kentucky Republican has never been the favorite of tea party-aligned conservatives. His budget deals with the Obama administration -- most notably the December 2012 agreement with Vice President Joe Biden averting the so-called fiscal cliff -- haven't endeared him to the base who say he gives up too much. He has declined to get rid of the Senate filibuster in order to block the Iran nuclear deal, and critics say he surrendered the fight over federal funding for Planned Parenthood by declaring early on that he would actively seek to avoid a government shutdown.

McConnell made sure that all his cronies were elected, or re-elected last year, and he just got re-elected himself, so his position is far more solid than Boehner's.

But...politicians move with the winds, and republican senators may detect blood in the water in the senate as well before long, and may stop following his moderate lead to be on the side of the rising conservative tide.

This POS reporting doesn’t even begin to touch all of the reasons why conservative Republicans can’t stand McConnell. Given the length of time he’s had power, please name one thing he’s done for conservatives. He’s pure RINO with no spine and it’s time for him to go.

{McTurtle will thumb his nose at the american public and do as he pleases. He could care less about American, only his sorry ass and all the money he makes off of us.}

You are so right. He continues on a daily basis to thumb his nose, but nowperhaps some of the more timid conservatives
will step up—Marco Rubio being one, and since he is running may grow a pair, and join the fight. He has been AWL in past fights manned by Mike Lee and Ted Cruz.

There are other conservative Senators who may be emboldened.

McConnell, you little ball-less quisling, you’re next. I want a majority leader that will work hard to stop the Obama agenda, not pass it.

Well the KY Gov is a RAT, would like to know if McTurtle quits will there be a Special election or will Gov. Beshear be able to appoint a RAT Senator for the next five years? McTurtle is vindictive enough to outright quit like Baby Bohner and throw the seat.
