Donald Trump has become the first Republican presidential candidate to top 30% support in the race for the Republican nomination, according to a new CNN/ORC Poll, which finds the businessman pulling well away from the rest of the GOP field.
Trump gained 8 points since August to land at 32% support, and has nearly tripled his support since just after he launched his campaign in June. The new poll finds former neurosurgeon Ben Carson rising 10 points to land in second place with 19%. Together, these two non-politicians now hold the support of a majority of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, and separately, both are significantly ahead of all other competitors.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush stands in third place with 9%, down 4 points since August, and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz holds fourth place with 7%. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker follow at 5%, with all other candidates at 3% or less, including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who notched the only other statistically significant shift in the poll by falling 5 points since August.

“So far, the enthusiasm gap between the parties is enormous”
This is true until Sanders wins the Dem nomination or Warren enters the picture as someone’s VP candidate. Those two have the ability to fire things up. If Clinton or Biden are the candidates, and Warren is not the VP, then yes I think you are correct.

Someone a bit higher on the thread just broke down that NY, CA, IL and DC account for ~107 EVs. A Trump landslide doesn’t win those states. It’s a pipe dream to pretend he could.

I have no expectarions that he will do any of the things for which we social conservatives are so anxious,The cynic in me thinks that even if we had a pure conservative in office, the Supreme Court would just overrule anything of value anyways.

Trump’s no conservative and everyone should be aware of that. What he has going for him is that he stands up to the political class AND he’s rock-solid on Immigration which is one of the biggest issues of the day. And everyone believes him when he says “We’re going to build that wall”.
The misgivings we have with him is why he needs a guy like Cruz (preferably Cruz himself) as VP. Cruz as VP guarantees the base in the manner Palin did for McCain but with greater effect. I also believe Cruz would help guide Trump to conservative solutions to varying problems.

I don’t want a woman as president. We don’t seem to produce Margaret Thatchers.

I believe you're correct. There wouldn't really need to be much overriding done, anyway. The ‘rats are fully onboard with making society as sick as they can, and the GOPe couldn't care less (though they used to give it some lip service back when they needed conservative votes) as long as they can get continue to get paid for supporting cheap labor. It keeps coming into my mind that the only even partial success the GOPe has had on Republican platform issues in recent years is somewhat defanging the unions. I'm not a supporter of unions, for various reasons (including that they support the left in toto, including on social issues), but I find it interesting that the one success the GOP has had has been in some union-busting, and the potential parallels that might have in their push for amnesty (cheap labor) and their allegiance to the Chamber of Commerce even at the cost of conservative anger. It also ties in, somehow, with the fact that no matter how many times we the people have howled them down on the amnesty issue, the GOP continues to resurrect it in a way in which they have never bothered to resurrect the Roe v Wade, sodomite mirage, etc, issues. They will side with the rats, and the whole lot of them side with globalists/crony capitalism, on this issue, while mouthing “the issue is settled” on the other things which matter to conservatives, things we have tried to either prevent or overturn. They didn't blink a lash at funding CommieCare-yet after decades, we cut off one head of the amnesty hydra, two more grow in its place, with the support of the GOP. They want it so much (and are accomplishing so much of already through backdoor channels), that I'm afraid it may be a done deal.
