VIENNA — Pope Francis on Sunday called on every parish, religious community, monastery and sanctuary in Europe to shelter refugees fleeing “death from war and hunger,” adding that the Vatican’s two parishes would lead the way by taking in two families.

In a speech to thousands of people in St. Peter’s Square, the pope said it was not enough to say “have courage, hang in there” to those marching toward what he described as “life’s hope.”

Referring to the “tragedy of tens of thousands of refugees that flee death in conflict and hunger and are on a journey of hope,” Francis said, according to Vatican Radio, “the Gospel calls us to be close to the smallest and to those who have been abandoned.” He specifically asked that the European bishops support the effort.

Although I don't know where he is, Mahoney is still alive -- he turned his position over to a hispanic bishop. Believe that was in the wake of the scandal where he covered up for all those priests that abused children and cost the church serious $$$ in settlements.

PS: Thank you for your service.

I’ll be damned. I thought he had died.

He was a total POS as far as I’m concerned.

To disagree and then take the leap to bash the entire Church, abandon the Eucharist and ultimately leave the Church, is a huge mistake.

Great point! Emphasis; mine.

“Today the bishops and the Pope are in favor of the Muslim invasion of the entire West, and the Mexican invasion of the U.S.”

They have been helping to bring in muslims since Obama became president . It is one of things no one is talking about
People are talking about the Mexicans crossing the border but not the muslims that have been coming in daily on charter flights . They have been taking money from the government to place them around the country .

“able-bodied young men.”

And he is coming the U.S. later in the month and will ask congress to do the same thing here

Sure - just bring a few Christian hating muslim men into your house so your children can experience diversity first hand.

I’m sorry, but this Pope is insane.

The question I have is, why is this happening NOW? It seems orchestrated by someone, not just a spontaneous movement.

It is difficult for me not to see this as a form of jihad, striking when they think the West - under the passive, anti-American "leadership" of Obama - is at its weakest. The Iran deal - with its patent display of American weakness - might have been one of the triggers, and the rise of Trump might be another. Maybe the jihadists think this is their last, best chance.

The immigrant/jihadists - with the aid of the media - will prey on Western sympathy for the "poor, fleeing refugees" with drowning babies, and will let them in without thinking through the consequences. The views of the average citizen in Europe or America will not count for a hill of beans - this is something that the elite are pushing.

The pope is a Jesuit, and Jesuits are always highly-educated, but this pope actually seems DUMB.

“Austria faces a similar influx — 80,000 asylum applicants are expected this year in a country of eight million...”

The Pope is a 4th rate mind pretending to be an intellect. But when the Vatican takes in 80K wannabe terrorists/muslims, I’ll believe the Pope to be a SINCERE 4th rate mind...

What does Jesus want us, as Christians to do?

To go to the countries from whence they came and convert them there.
