Statement of Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis - It's a Heaven or Hell decision.
Liberty Counsel ^ | September 1, 2015 | Kim Davis

Posted on 09/04/2015 1:36:53 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Kim Davis released the following statement a few days ago:

I have worked in the Rowan County Clerk’s office for 27 years as a Deputy Clerk and was honored to be elected as the Clerk in November 2014, and took office in January 2015. I love my job and the people of Rowan County. I have never lived any place other than Rowan County. Some people have said I should resign, but I have done my job well. This year we are on track to generate a surplus for the county of 1.5 million dollars.

In addition to my desire to serve the people of Rowan County, I owe my life to Jesus Christ who loves me and gave His life for me. Following the death of my godly mother-in-law over four years ago, I went to church to fulfill her dying wish. There I heard a message of grace and forgiveness and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. I am not perfect. No one is. But I am forgiven and I love my Lord and must be obedient to Him and to the Word of God.

I never imagined a day like this would come, where I would be asked to violate a central teaching of Scripture and of Jesus Himself regarding marriage. To issue a marriage license which conflicts with God’s definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience. It is not a light issue for me. It is a Heaven or Hell decision. For me it is a decision of obedience. I have no animosity toward anyone and harbor no ill will. To me this has never been a gay or lesbian issue. It is about marriage and God’s Word. It is a matter of religious liberty, which is protected under the First Amendment, the Kentucky Constitution, and in the Kentucky Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Our history is filled with accommodations for people’s religious freedom and conscience. I want to continue to perform my duties, but I also am requesting what our Founders envisioned – that conscience and religious freedom would be protected. That is all I am asking. I never sought to be in this position, and I would much rather not have been placed in this position. I have received death threats from people who do not know me. I harbor nothing against them. I was elected by the people to serve as the County Clerk. I intend to continue to serve the people of Rowan County, but I cannot violate my conscience.

Have been reading a lot of statements attacking her character as a hypocrite based on past behavior before her surrendering her life to Jesus Christ. Posting this statement in breaking news so more people will get a chance to read it and understand why she is taking this stand. May be difficult for non-Christians to understand, but as a bible believing Christian, it's a Heaven or Hell decision.

And for those who say she should resign because of her Christian beliefs, I post a reminder that this nation was founded for and by believers in the one true Judeo-Christian God. Our constitution and entire system of government is based on Judeo-Christian principles and that's why the godless progressives are at war against Christianity and religious freedom. If we lose this war, the entire system collapses.

She must stand as she chooses and do what she feels led to do.

I have seen the statements attacking her and I don’t like them either.

God be with her.

Well the liberals are going to turn it into Hell for you because you wouldn’t legalize their sodomite behavior.

Bump that.

If she's legit then she's right.

Rather go to jail than go to hell.

Excellent words Jim! People need to see her for who she is today, and not who she may have been “yesterday.” The judge should be ashamed.

When she is released, her first order of business should be to VOID all of the forms that bear her name as the county official that she did not personally sign or otherwise approve.

Amen.

Thanks, Jim. With all the reading I've done on this, there's something I still don't understand. It hasn't been addressed anywhere and if I were her attorney, I’d be all over it.

Her position is that of an elected official, which means she can’t be fired – she can only be impeached. OK, fine.

When she ran for (and was elected to) her position, she ran under the premise that her job involved a certain set of parameters, duties she had to perform, responsibilities she had to assume, that sort of thing. That set of parameters changed when SCOTUS allowed same-sex marriages (assuming that Kentucky law is the same).

So they changed the rules of the game on her and she’s refusing to work under the new rules because they violate her conscience. I’m betting if these rules were in place when she ran for her position, she wouldn’t have run for the position because she would not have approved these licenses. Her beliefs haven’t changed, the parameters changed and she's being punished for it.

First Amendment considerations aside, she should NOT be in jail. At the very worst, all the court should rightfully have done is order impeachment proceedings, or possibly a special election for the people to vote her out (which I'm betting wouldn't happen).

Here’s the “bio” on “judge” Bunning:

Article says that the ABA refused to endorse his appointment (which was by “W”). Poor grades, mediocre law school, too little experience

Excellent comments Jim. Thank you.

She deserves our support. None of us are fault free.

When we’re doing the right thing, we should be supported.

For me, that’s a rather universal rule.

Do the right thing, I’ll support you.

I haven’t led a perfect life.

I have and will continue to pray for her. I don’t know God’s will in this matter, but I’m sure He has a plan. I can’t judge one way or the other because I’m not in her position to have to make such a decision. God be with her>
