Statement of Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis - It's a Heaven or Hell decision.

Kim Davis released the following statement a few days ago:

I have worked in the Rowan County Clerk’s office for 27 years as a Deputy Clerk and was honored to be elected as the Clerk in November 2014, and took office in January 2015. I love my job and the people of Rowan County. I have never lived any place other than Rowan County. Some people have said I should resign, but I have done my job well. This year we are on track to generate a surplus for the county of 1.5 million dollars.

In addition to my desire to serve the people of Rowan County, I owe my life to Jesus Christ who loves me and gave His life for me. Following the death of my godly mother-in-law over four years ago, I went to church to fulfill her dying wish. There I heard a message of grace and forgiveness and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. I am not perfect. No one is. But I am forgiven and I love my Lord and must be obedient to Him and to the Word of God.

I never imagined a day like this would come, where I would be asked to violate a central teaching of Scripture and of Jesus Himself regarding marriage. To issue a marriage license which conflicts with God’s definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience. It is not a light issue for me. It is a Heaven or Hell decision. For me it is a decision of obedience. I have no animosity toward anyone and harbor no ill will. To me this has never been a gay or lesbian issue. It is about marriage and God’s Word. It is a matter of religious liberty, which is protected under the First Amendment, the Kentucky Constitution, and in the Kentucky Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Our history is filled with accommodations for people’s religious freedom and conscience. I want to continue to perform my duties, but I also am requesting what our Founders envisioned – that conscience and religious freedom would be protected. That is all I am asking. I never sought to be in this position, and I would much rather not have been placed in this position. I have received death threats from people who do not know me. I harbor nothing against them. I was elected by the people to serve as the County Clerk. I intend to continue to serve the people of Rowan County, but I cannot violate my conscience.

The reason government actors must always follow the law is that the law is the source of their authority to act in a government capacity in the first place. Thus a 9th Amendment objection - based in the rights of the State of Kentucky, the government she works for - would be a lawful one, but her 1st Amendment argument - a right of private citizens -is not.

If her grounds are religious grounds then she cannot assert them over her actions as a government actor, just like Lois Lerner cannot lawfully assert the Fifth to hide her actions as a government actor.

So you’re saying that — despite the fact that it was EXTERNAL forces that destroyed Kim’s work environment, and forcibly inserted Satanic crap into the scope of her daily duties, whereas previously her office work did in fact comport reasonably well with the several tenets of the Christian faith — it isn’t any of those EXTERNAL forces that should be made to yield, but rather it is Ms. Davis who ought to give ground, here??

And you’re going beyond that notion to the broader idea that all Christians serving in the public sphere ought to repudiate the source of their paychecks, label that source “Satanic” (a.k.a. The Beast), quit their jobs, and so purify themselves of all unrighteousness as they thus remand the whole of the public sphere to the custody and control of un-christan and anti-christian persons??

If that’s a legitimate stance to take, then just how — pray tell — is one of your most elevated spirituality even allowed to tread upon this fallen sod unbesmirched by the sin-saturated dust upon your feet? Indeed, if your assertions as to Christians being on the public payrolls is in any degree valid, then you must, by logical extension, go the entire distance and advocate the wholesale self-removal of all Christianity from any sphere of society that is in the least bit tainted by sin.

And if that is ludicrous, then so is your initial claim also ludicrous.

God bless and protect Kim Davis. The first public official to take a stand for moral decency and the only valid truth concerning marriage and the institution founded by God. All other judges, Governors, legislatures, congressman, senators, government officials should be ashamed for letting gay marriage get to the point that a county clerk has to be the one that finally takes a stand for what the majority of all Americans believe. It took the convictions and faith of one of lowest forms of public officials to finally say no this is not right and not what our constitution states and not what God intended for families and marriage. Every Christian in America should take to the streets, and the courts, and the statehouses, and stand behind Kim Davis. Jesus Christ is Lord!

If all government officials from our nations vast history of success, were required to resign because of their faith and commitment to Christ, there would have been NO founding fathers... NO declaration of Independence... and NO end to slavery in this nation... in fact... there would be NO USA.

And if the founders were alive today... we would have just experienced a bloody standoff at a bridge some obscure place in Kentucky... just like the one at Concorde. The judge would be swinging or sprouting feathers... and the perpetrators of the queer marriage revolt, would be hiding in some other country.

Yes our vast reservoir of forbears would have ALREADY come to extreme levels of misbehavior over this crap. Jesus help us!

There is no Kentucky state same sex marriage law nor is there a Federal same sex marriage law. The judge issued an unlawful order and jailed her for not obeying his unlawful order. Kim Davis is abiding by Kentucky Sate law. Find out the facts before making false statements...maybe read the statements at the link provided and other links in the thread and learn the facts of what is actually going on.

Amendment IX
The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

How does this, the Ninth, not pertain to the individual in the same sense as the First?

SCOTUS just “found” a new right enumerated in the Constitution. By the Ninth, as I read it, the newfound enumeration of that right in the Constitution SHALL NOT be construed to deny or disparage others, which includes Kim Davis’ right to “the free exercise” of her religion.

Her free exercise is to be retained by her inviolable despite the enumeration of this fresh-minted right.

I agree. For those of us who will stand up for Christ in these last days, things may not be easy. Davis is following the example of Peter and the early Christians in the Book of Acts. She chooses to follow the laws of God when man's "law" is against God. Paul wrote in Romans that we should seek peaceful and quiet lives under government, but he also wrote that Christ is above all.

Very, very dark days ahead. Tribulation is almost here.

Leftist homosexualist Geraldo Rivera, today on The Five, viciously attacked her and said she got what she deserved. Said he actions are “despicable and the same thing as not giving an interracial couple a marriage license in the 60s”. The entire crew of liberals mascarading as conservatives basically said she would have been fired and be done with her. So much for Fox’s “Fair and Balanced” reporting.

I support this courageous woman and what she is doing.However I dont quite understand though how she rationalizes being a Democrat. She must know that voting Democrat is to support a whole host of anti Christian issues.

Nevertheless I am praying for her, and sick of hearing people say she should just do her job.

I am rooting for her honestly! But the hole in her story is that she is a Democrat, kinda hard to get my mind around that. I am always saying and believing that the term “Christian Democrat” is a oxymoron, as well as “pro choice Democrat” another oxymoron.

How can she not know that Christians do not vote for abortion and gay marriage and the removal of God Christ from classroom/public square?

She is being courageous here nevertheless, but how does she rationalize being a Democrat in this day and age.

Its like a Democrat going to a pro life rally only to return home to vote Democrat

Thank you for posting this, Jim. Well said.

I think after reading some of the comments on Facebook, a lot of people have no clue as to what Christianity is about. They seem to think you can leave at the door while you go to work and pick it back up once you feel like it.
