The Kentucky clerk has gained national-wide attention for her refusal to issue gay couples a marriage license in spite of the Supreme Court's landmark ruling in June that same-sex couples have the right to marry.

Davis, who has lived in Rowan County all her life, has repeatedly cited "God's authority" as her reason for defying the federal courts and denying the marriage licenses.

But that’s a religious view. I’m sorry, but it is.

I married my second wife after having a vasectomy. Should I have not been allowed to marry because I wanted to concentrate my parenting on my two sons from my first marriage, which I did not want to leave?

Civil marriage can be about all kinds of issues, from protecting assets to wanting a person to be able to give end of life support/have power to help you if say you were in the hospital.

One doesn’t have to be married to procreate.

There are legal reasons that one might get married that have absolutely nothing to do with procreation.

Religious marriage is one thing. Civil marriage may be completely different.

This woman as a government agent should not be putting her religious views onto others who are completely valid in getting a civil marriage.

And that’s really the entire point of my post. And my confusion of how Catholicism differs on the multiple marriage issue.

Sorry. Cell phone self correct gave a goofy reply.

If our faith begins at conception, then why do we send missionaries far and wide? Why do we have a holy book to guide us?

And I guess I should say this: Even if this lady was an ATHEIST she should not have been forced to do something that violates her conscience. Even a bakery who are secular should not be forced to do things that violate their conscience. PERIOD.

That is not my issue. My issue is the continued decline of holiness within the church and "easy-believism," which is going to bring God's judgment on this country...1 Peter 4:17.

My issue is the church doesn't look any different from the world. The divorce rate among Christians is the same as the world...Christians have abortions...Christians do not pay their debts...the list goes on.

THAT is my issue.

It is bizarre to me too see people who are crusading against homosexuality and at the same time are totally willing to give a pass to adultery. Widespread adultery is the very reason the concept of marriage has been degraded to the point where the homosexual claim on it is taken seriously.

______________________________________________—

Nice straw man. Nobody is condoning adultery. We’re discussing a sin that is currently infecting our nation, and has the potential to destroy the family as we know it.

You area newbie who seems to have a pro queer agenda.

What people are missing is she was elected in a county that does not approve of queer marriage. She is doing the bidding of her constituents.

she’s not pointing out their speck. She’s taking a stand against sin; sin that she’s being forced to rubber stamp. What part of that don’t you get?

I find it astounding that the only thing she did in the public eye was to stand with God and you ridicule her. The unrepentant sinners are swarming her and you don’t have one word to say about it....weird.

Regardless of what her past or present life may be, she is making the stand we all need to make it. The Feds are waging a war against any and all who believe in Biblical morality. If the Feds get away with this, they won’t be shy about coming after any of us.

Eventually they’ll wonder why nobody stands up any more. And be confused about it.

>>>See how HE Condemned the woman! Oh wait, He didn’t!

Had she been a member of the Body of Christ...He would have. He is the one who wrote 1 Cor. 5:9-13 after all....

There are different standards of behavior for those outside of Christ and those within the body. Those OUTSIDE of Christ have a bigger issue than being a serial adulterer. For those who are INSIDE the Body...it's pretty clear: Those who refuse to acknowledge their grievous sins should be put outside of the church until they repent.

You are comparing apples to elephants.

I agree completely. There is and will continue to be a great falling away in these last days. My point to you is that you singled HER out as the questionable one and all you know about her is she’s a marriage clerk that stood her ground on God’s Word. Why?

Matt Staver is her attorney. He’s a Christian legal expert. He said today she was saved 4 years ago and her whole life turned around.

It pains me to hear someone who is a preacher judge another believer without having any information about that person. And then you didn’t say ONE THING negative about the rampant homosexual agenda that seeks to destroy ALL believers.

No offense taken. Read into what I said however you want. I know what I wrote and what I meant.

There seems to be a TON of other issues intertwined here and I’ve read many good posts and good points of view.

Why is it that some people around here are so quick to spew personal attacks, call for zots, send the Viking kitties, etc.. Yet they’re criticizing me and others on this thread for “casting stones”, “judging”, etc..

They’re doing exactly what they’re espousing. I’ve been called a fool, a yankee, had my faith questioned, “dismissed as a Catholic”... all in this thread.

And essentially, just for posting a news story and wondering if standing behind this woman - who at BEST - has had questionable past morals, is a good way to make an argument.

I’ve read respectfully and considered everyone’s points that have been made. We should all be able to do that.

So true. We finally have a woman willing to stand on God’s principals and people that profess they are believers attack her!! Totally unbelievable. God tells us that what’s right is wrong in the last days and I am seeing it first hand, in multiple ways.

See how Solomon treated the two prostitutes who came to him for judgement?
See how Jesus treated the woman taken in adultery when the pharisees wanted judgement?

Will YOU take up the rock and throw it at her?

Wow. Just wow. So Christians aren’t allowed to hold to their faith if they sinned before coming to Christ?

>>>she’s not pointing out their speck. She’s taking a stand against sin; sin that she’s being forced to rubber stamp. What part of that don’t you get?

Let's ASSUME she is a believer and has been one all of her life...we simply don't know.

She's taking a stand against sin? When is she going to take a stand against her own sin?

As I said...she should NOT have been forced to sign it...even if she was an atheist. But don't throw rocks and hide in your glass house. I suppose it's OK in your version of Christianity to take a stand against sin as long as you are allowed to violate God's laws...

And I THINK you are selectively reading. The gays have a MUCH bigger problem: They are separated from Christ. They are not separated from Christ because of homosexuality...just like I was not separated from Christ because of lustful thoughts. I was separated from Christ because I AM A SINNER. I placed my trust in Christ to save me from my sins.

If she is in Christ...she is saved. PERIOD. God judged her sins on the Cross. HOWEVER...we as Christians should NOT continue to sin in order that grace may abound - Romans 6:1, 2. What part of that do YOU not get?

So I guess in your version of Christianity as long as you are not doing certain things...it's ok to hide behind the cross and say you're standing up for it. THAT is what we call HYPOCRISY...and the church is FULL of it.

People who do that are EXACTLY what Jesus was referring to when He said: "The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector+ - 18:11.

So...you're a pharisee.

>>>Will YOU take up the rock and throw it at her?

AGAIN...she is NOT a woman at the well or a woman caught in adultery. Those women were NOT members of the Church.

So since she claims to be a member of the church...the question REALLY is: Will YOU FOLLOW the scripture and "Purge the evil person from among you."?

Again...and its VERY clear in the NT...if the woman at the well had been a member of the Church of Corinth...she would have been handed over to Satan for the destruction of the body until such a time she repented. Do you REALLY not see that?

You’re familiar with the expression, “Money is the root of all evil”, are you not? Makes no sense at all. But when you use the whole quote, “The love of money is the root of all evil” (1 Tim. 6:10), it makes perfect sense.

So it is with “Perception is reality”. I’ve always said, “To some people, perception is reality”. Dear old Mom used to say that to me when I was a kid and it’s as true today it was then.
