Ted Cruz: 'I Stand With Kim Davis'
Talking Points Memo ^ | 9/3/15 | Tierney Sneed

Posted on 09/03/2015 1:13:08 PM PDT by VinL

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) rushed to the defense of the Kentucky clerk held in contempt of court Thursday for her refusal to issue gay marriage license and issued a statement calling for "every lover of liberty to stand with Kim Davis."

Davis, the clerk in Rowan county, had stopped issuing licenses to all marriage couples after the Supreme Court decision legalized same-sex marriage and was sued by a group of couples.

"Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny," Cruz said. "Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America."

Read Cruz's full statement below:

“Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny. Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America.

“I stand with Kim Davis. Unequivocally. I stand with every American that the Obama Administration is trying to force to chose between honoring his or her faith or complying with a lawless court decision.

“In dissent, Chief Justice Roberts rightly observed that the Court’s marriage decision has nothing to do with the Constitution. Justice Scalia observed that the Court’s decision was so contrary to law that state and local officials would choose to defy it.

“For every politician — Democrat and Republican — who is tut-tutting that Davis must resign, they are defending a hypocritical standard. Where is the call for the mayor of San Francisco to resign for creating a sanctuary city — resulting in the murder of American citizens by criminal illegal aliens welcomed by his lawlessness?

“Where is the call for President Obama to resign for ignoring and defying our immigration laws, our welfare reform laws, and even his own Obamacare?

“When the mayor of San Francisco and President Obama resign, then we can talk about Kim Davis.

“Those who are persecuting Kim Davis believe that Christians should not serve in public office. That is the consequence of their position. Or, if Christians do serve in pubic office, they must disregard their religious faith–or be sent to jail.

“Kim Davis should not be in jail. We are a country founded on Judeo-Christian values, founded by those fleeing religious oppression and seeking a land where we could worship God and live according to our faith, without being imprisoned for doing so.

“I call upon every Believer, every Constitutionalist, every lover of liberty to stand with Kim Davis. Stop the persecution now.”

Ted Cruz for President.

When Trump says it's time to move on from gay issues, then I say it's time to move on from Trump

Stand with a person doing the right thing.

Stand against a person doing the wrong thing.

The end result of your expressed logic is that anyone who has R behind their name can do no wrong.

Wake up, Christians! The ungodly government is throwing Christians in jail as they do in every totalitarian country. Are your children and grandchildren going to be allowed to be Christians?

The feds break and ignore the law at will. They even celebrate lawbreakers in certain situations. If a muslim state employee refused to do a certain aspect of their job for religious reasons I'd like to meet to judge who would send them to jail.

But let a Christian exercise their conscious and off to jail they go.

This is what the entire 'equality' thing was aimed at - criminalizing Christianity.

I think the mayor ought to be put in jail. I also think Ms Davis needs to do her job or quit.

“you can’t stand with them because of their political party?”

It’s not just because of her political party. It’s what her party stands for ie: gay marriage, abortion. She is a member of that party. If she had such strong Christian beliefs why is she a member and why did she run for office under that party?

When you are a member of a group or organization that usually means you adhere to it’s beliefs or platform. You can’t have your feet on both sides of the fence. You either stand for something or you do not.

This is a woman who helped put in place the mess that she is in now. She should have resigned. I can’t bring myself to have much sympathy for her either.

Her party has made such a mess out of this country that the law means nothing. It’s a tangled web that no one will be able to sort out. Law changes depending on who is in charge at the moment and what they feel like doing. She chose to work for the government. If the government has now decided that they want to give marriage rights to gay couples and she doesn’t want to do that then she has to resign.

Yes the government is in the wrong. The courts are in the wrong. The president is in the wrong. The Congress is in the wrong. The laws are so confused and contradictory now who can figure out what is up and what is down?

Her political views helped to bring this into being. Much harm has been done to others. Has she renounced the dem party yet?

" I think KY should tell the Feds to take a flying leap. "

Suggest that KY provide a $5,000 check, tax free, to any married couple that has a natural baby in the future.

I think riots would help. So far, though, the FRENCH were more vocal about this madness than Americans have been. And the whole country is just sliding into COMPULSORY insanity.

I can’t stand her! She reminds me of every lousy boss in a grey office building in NYC with her whining, nasal voice and addiction to being a stickler for petty rules.

I’m just a white guy.

He does??? Got a link??

This is not a Trump thread, I know you don't support him or what he is doing, that's fine

Bringing Trump into a Cruz thread is hijacking, take your complaints to a Trump thread per FR rules.
