In a major victory for President Barack Obama, Democratic Sen. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland announced support for the Iran nuclear deal Wednesday, providing the White House the votes it needs to prevent Republicans from scuttling the agreement.
The announcement means that at least 34 senators -- the number required by the Constitution to sustain a veto -- will back Obama in vetoing a Republican resolution to disapprove of the deal.
While majorities of both the GOP-controlled House and Senate are expected to vote against the agreement, supporters of the multinational accord that aims to curb Iran's nuclear weapons program are also hoping to get the 41 votes needed to filibuster the bill and prevent it from even getting to a final vote in the Senate.
Secretary of State John Kerry said the administration will continue to try and push support for deal past the 34 votes they now have "until the last moment."
"Thirty-four votes are obviously enough votes for the president's veto to be upheld," Kerry told CNN's Christiane Amanpour. "That is not satisfactory for us. We do want to try to go further. We'll continue to persuade."
That prospect upsets some Republicans who believe the historic agreement deserves a final up-or-down vote.
Nearly all Republicans have come out against the agreement, arguing it sets up weak standards for international inspectors to monitor whether Iran is complying with the agreement and would allow Iran to build nuclear weapons in a few years.
But only two Democratic senators -- Chuck Schumer of New York and Bob Menendez of New Jersey -- have announced they oppose it. The Senate's 54 Republicans would need four more Democrats to join them in opposing the deal to end the filibuster and send the bill for a vote.

Not a mistake. It’s bad judgement or lack of judgement. If we knew the ramifications of that vote, so did he. If he didn’t, that problem is just as bad.
The Iran ‘deal’ has nothing to do with nukes, except to commit the US and other Western countries to protecting Iran’s nuke program.
This is about the cash that’s been held since the overthrow of the Shah. The West has agreed to give it to the mullahs, who will use it to finance terrorism. It amounts to up to a half-year of Iran’s GDP.
And there’s plenty of cash therein to bribe Western politicians.

No he did not. He secured the fast track to Ezekiel 38, which can happen at any moment now. Israel will survive but Russia, Iran, Turkey, Russia and the rest of the ME will be afire.
What happens to the US during this war? Especially now since we have any anti-Christian, anti-Israel government?

The only thing more dangerous than a nuclear Iran is any retiring US Senator with a (D) after their name.
even scarier, there are elected officials in the minority who can let a country run by religious fanatics develop a nuclear weapon after they have threatened us and Israel. The world just got a lot more dangerous.
Hopefully God is merciful on everyone but the people that backed this mess. And that includes the voters that empowered it all.

pass a (now always SECRET) Treaty.

In spite of the hype coming from the joke-media, the “Iran Deal” is NOT a Treaty.
It is merely an “Executive Agreement” that can easily be flushed down the toilet by our next President. We won’t get back the $150 billion of cash, of course. But an American President who refuses to kiss-up to the mullahs can impose enough sanctions to clip the mullahs’ wings.
My concern now is whether Mitch McConnell will preemptively surrender to the mere THREAT of a filibuster. McConnell has two choices besides surrender.
He can invoke the “Nuclear Option”, which means declaring the “oh-so-genteel” filibuster rule does NOT apply to nuclear threats directed at us by suicidal crazies who loudly chant “Death to America!”
Or he can go with a REAL filibuster. Senator McConnell can require that the “Iran Deal” debate actually occur and that the pro-Iran Senators stand up before the cameras and explain to America why giving that much cash to Iran’s crazy mullahs does NOT make America less safe!
I’d also like to see the speeches of the pro-Iran quislings separated by short speeches from Republicans that point out, for example, that trusting Iran to “self-inspect” is INSANE! And that giving Iran funds it needs to shop for Russian missiles is INSANE!
I expect that most of the pro-Iran Senators will “stay bought”, but if a few of them react to being exposed in this embarrassing public way with a “change of heart”, America wins!
All this victory requires is a serious effort by Mitch McConnell.

All for not. Irans’ nuke program will be turned to dust anyway. It is just a matter of time. If not us than somebody else. The Saud’s, Egyptians, Israelis, hell even maybe the Pakis; will take it out for their own survival.
On the brighter side this may...may I say...net us 5 more Senate seats.
Oh, and of course, DEATH TO IRAN, DEATH TO THE MULLAHS.
