A Response to Free Republic Trump Critics
Vanity

Posted on 08/31/2015 12:43:37 AM PDT by Behind the Blue Wall

Why Trump?

1. Illegal immigration is the only issue; if it's not stopped soon, America will become like California -- a demographic one-party state.

2. Politics is about name-recognition and none of the other candidates besides Trump has the name recognition to challenge Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton.

Therefore, Trump is the only candidate with a chance to win who has promised to do the only thing that matters.

Until Trump came into the picture, the GOP had the race saturated with milktoast candidates and their man Jeb was double digits ahead of everyone in the polls. He was cruising to the nomination!

You've swallowed his hype hook, line and sinker. You ignore his history.

We have had 6-1/2 years of a charismatic, untested (politically) president. How’s that working out for you?

Please keep in mind that even if Trump were to win the nomination and even if Trump were to win the presidency, Congress still has to pass legislation that puts into place Trump’s plan. He has already called all politicians weak and ineffective - how is he going to work with them to get what he wants passed? Trump is good at making deals, but how do you know he will make the deal with the 80 (more or less) conservatives in the House and 10 or so conservatives in the Senate? Maybe he will make his deal with the moderate Republicans and the moderate-sounding Democrats? Maybe build the wall but give amnesty (with the funding never provided for the wall)?

“Some people vet out their candidates and the reality is that we have a year left.”

You need to check out the primary voting schedule. The winner will have been determined by about the end of March 2016.

It's over a year out. Anything could happen. Trump is awesome although I still support Ted Cruz. Remember Guiliani had a big lead at this point in time in 2008 and McLame creeped up and slimed up the election later.

Let's try not to shred our fellow FReepers beyond recovery between now and then? I really like a lot of folks here who have different opinions and I want them to stay here.

Anyway, I don't believe any of the primary candidates are like the poor selection we had in the previous cycle. I mean, except for Bush. He's so full of crap a mexican outhouse smells better.

What did Donald Trump do previously on this issue before now?

Here are two excepts from two of his books. The first published in 2000 and the second published in 2011:

IMMIGRATION— PROTECTING OUR OWN

“There’s another area of foreign affairs that doesn’t get talked about very much, but it is a huge issue: Immigration.

America is experiencing serious social and economic difficulty with illegal immigrants who are flooding across our borders.”

Trump, Donald (2000-01-15). The America We Deserve (Kindle Locations 1667-1670). St. Martin's Press. Kindle Edition.

IT’S CALLED ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION FOR A REASON

“Illegal immigration is a wrecking ball aimed at U.S. taxpayers. Washington needs to get tough and fight for “We the People,” not for the special interests who want cheap labor and a minority voting bloc. Every year taxpayers are getting stuck with a $113 billion bill to pay for the costs of illegal immigration.2 That’s a bill we can’t afford and wouldn’t have to pay if people in Washington did their jobs and upheld our nation’s laws.”

Trump, Donald J. (2011-12-06). Time to Get Tough: Making America #1 Again (p. 135). Regnery Publishing. Kindle Edition.

I like the Donald but he’s in good condition? He’s fat and has the look of somebody with high blood pressure. Now I don’t mean that in a negative way - I love he doesn’t ride bikes like the idiot secretary of state and plays old man games such as golf. He’s gritty and real and looks like your average NYC middle manager despite the expensive suits (which he manages to make look wrinkled and out of Men’s Warehouse!)

Illegal immigration is not the only issue

Actually (illegal) immigration it is the only issue that matters this election cycle. You are going to have to make a better argument then "No it not and you are stupid".

From a difference thread

"Trump is right about immigration and on that issue alone he's earned the vote of every thinking American. Let the left import 60 million more Marxist voters and the USA is finished as a sovereign nation. Think 60 million is an inflated number? Consider this, there are probably 20 to 30 million illegals here right now. Grant them citizenship and then they have the right to bring family here. 20 million bringing just two family members is 60 million. If 20 mil bring 5 family that's 120 million."

Trump is the only candidate running that is credible on the issue of immigration. Not Cruz, not Walker not Paul. Only Trump is credible. Only Trump made immigration the center point of his campaign. The others could have but declined to do so. Trump owns the most important issue of our times. All the rest are "me too" candidates that will fold in a NY second if elected.

Dittos! How these people can take Trump seriously after all the years of lib comments and Clinton support amazes me. Ted Cruz is the man of the hour. If they choose to blow it we may never have this chance again.

That is a very weak argument. It doesn't persuade me at all.

There are many important issues that a President will have to deal with, not just one. He is weak on other important issues. Trump is by no means a reliable conservative. He lacks the personal character and experience I'm looking for in a President. To me, he comes across as a blowhard egomaniac, rude, shallow, and feeding on celebrity and anger. He has incredibly high negatives. And there are much better candidates in the race.

Talk of Trump’s height, his physical condition and his golf game are about as shallow as one can get. You remind me of the Perrybots who slobber all over each other while clamoring on about his hair. Incredibly shallow.

Worse, I think some are getting into Kim Jong Il territory in terms of worship. Next we will hear how Trump shot a 38-under par round that included no fewer than 11 holes in one. : )

Not true, all Trump has to do is enforce existing law.

And this does?

Yes he does; even with the comb-over flying in the wind, he looks a great deal more Presidential than does the pedestrian candidate.

Eye of the beholder, and all that?

Still am for Cruz.
