The anti-Trump angst grows
The Washington Post ^ | August 30, 2015 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 08/30/2015 1:49:25 PM PDT by EveningStar

Republican operatives, insiders affiliated with no campaign and donors with whom Right Turn spoke last week are not pleased about the state of the GOP race. They will say something like: “Yeah, it’s early. Yeah, Rudy Giuliani never became president. But still.” They will tell you public polling is exaggerated, although internal polling shows him leading. They are angst-ridden over Donald Trump’s staying power, but more than that, the inability of the other candidates to respond effectively and present themselves as an effective alternative.

These Republicans, on one hand, despair that an egocentric bully with no discernible political principles should be leading in polls. They observe that his incoherent mix of authoritarianism, protectionism and cronyism is antithetical to the modern conservative movement, and in tone is 180 degrees from Ronald Reagan. But they also note that he is building an organization and displaying “P.T. Barnum showmanship,” as one veteran of GOP presidential campaigns put it. They shake their heads, unable to fully comprehend Trump’s appeal, but more than that they are disturbed by the rest of the field. They do not believe Trump will be the nominee, but high hopes for a deep, quality field have not been met. In particular, they are worried that Trump’s embrace of “nativism” will doom the party if mimicked by others.

Jennifer Rubin writes the Right Turn blog for The Post, offering reported opinion from a conservative perspective.

For now, savvy campaigns will keep to their game plan, refine their message and work on attracting the overwhelming percentage of GOPe Republicans who find Trump a non-starter.

JenRube inadvertently left out a modifier in her sentence.

Oh; they will; they HAVE to!

The gauntlet has been thrown at their feet; and by GOD!; they MUST respond!!!

He did prove in the last debate that he can deliver a joke...

This mattereth not.

How he handles himself as BEING the joke is crucial!

An alternate title: Rubin’s anti-Trump angst grows.

And like the rest, grasping at thinning realities.

Yeah, there’s some real gems around here if you know where to look.

I can understand freepers who are suspicious and it’s worthwhile to know what their objections are, but then there’s the off the deep end gang who end up as parody.

Trump is the ultimate lose canon.

Nah...

That was Joseph Smith's 116 pages.

(I've always wondered if that would have turned out to be the Book of ELSIE)

There's no room for growth, when the angst is 100%.

Of course, it's only elitists that feel that angst.

I have angst about Trump. I’m a Cruz supporter. I know what Cruz is about and the flak he’s taken and he’s stood. I don’t know that about Trump. I don’t know a lot about Trump. What he’d ‘really’ do in office. I would like to believe what he says, but with the way things are in this country and what needs to be done I don’t wanna ‘hope’ he’ll stay conservative. I want to know. And I know that with Ted Cruz.

All this hand wringing about Trump’s popularity. It’s dead dog simple- the guy is honest compared to the sycophants and sophists in politics where being a pathological liar is a basic requirement.

The GOPe needs to be careful. Trump is succeeding because the people like him. To attack Trump is to attack most of his supporters.

Which is somewhere around 30% of republicans..... Trump is the only guy who has the name recognition, money, and status to pull this off. He is the only person I can think of who can take down the GOPe. That alone is enough reason to vote for him.

So, it's not just the Republican Party Establishment that doesn't get it, we can add this bimbo to the mix of people who don't either.

I'm not a Trump fan, I still believe it's way too early to pick a horse in this race. Having said that, if the media chattering class and the GOP-E would shut their traps and actually listen for a change, they'd figure out pretty quickly that:

1. American's are pretty pissed off about immigration, the economy, the daily scandals from the Obama Administration National Security, pissed about the Iran deal, Hillary's email scandal, and the Republican's complete caving into Obama even after winning the House & Senate via record elections;

2. Political correctness is DEAD.

Trump is doing what no one else in Washington DC is: He's speaking truth to power. Or, as people like me understand it: COMMON SENSE.

Trump's also making complete FOOLS out of anyone who attacks him which simply bolsters his standing with the electorate.

They just don't get it. The Media. Political Ruling Class, none of 'em.

"These Republicans...despair that an egocentric bully with no discernible political principles should be leading in polls."

"egocentric bull(ies) with no discernible political principles" neatly describes 90% of elected republicans in Washington. Pot meets kettle. Trump has them beat on just about everything that matters. Like truthfulness. Like the ability to speak plainly in plain language. Like calling out the other egocentric bullies. Plus, he takes kids for helicopter rides on his own helo AND he is Batman.

“These Republicans, on one hand, despair that an egocentric bully ...”

Bullies always call people who stand up to them and fight back bullies.

Let me educate you. You, nor any of us have any way of knowing whether any candidate will “stay” conservative - not even Ted Cruz. It’s one thing to raise money for a state campaign, but an entirely different set of rules when he is taking donations nationally. There are some who have their hooks in him already - due to donations. If you don’t understand this - then you truly are naive. He sure wasn’t conservative when he sold us out on the TPP vote, nor is his wanting to increase H-1B visas by 500% a conservative stance. So, I have my doubts about him too - as well as his wife’s background with Goldman Sachs and being on the CFR committee. These are troubling things, IMO. SO, never put your total trust in any human - they will all disappoint you in one way or another.

Walker has done the things he said he would do and had a hell of a fight with all the leftist establishment arrayed against him and no help from the GOPe.

Despite that Walker beat the leftists over and over.

He has the best track record out there.
