John McCain is not a war hero. Heroes are people that are idolized and admired, or people who do heroic deeds. John McCain is not idolized by anyone except the media, and has not done anything heroic. Now, he is a veteran, a former POW, a former officer, a graduate of a military academy, a Senator, and a lot of other things. But that doesn’t make him a hero.
