Is Trump the next Reagan? (vanity)
August 21, 2015 | me

I just finished watching a streaming video of Trump's rally in Alabama. And I gotta tell you, the guy spoke like Reagan would. Trump doesn't quite have Reagan's sense of humor, but otherwise, yep, Trump reminds me of Reagan.

watch any of Reagan’s speeches and there is a marked difference in approach. his 1961 speech on commie healthcare or his normandy address ... and of course, his ‘tear down this wall’ speech.

everything he said, he stated in a way that inspired the audience. of course, this is usually the case for someone with a professional speech writer. i believe Trump is just being Trump... which is all fine and good, as people are starving for authenticity. but he also needs that something extra that dares the audience to aspire to something greater.

just saying ‘we’re gonna be the best again’ isn’t really inspiring.

Reagan didn’t call names and use blustering blurts like “Shut Up” except for one time that I’m trying to remember!
************************************
Possibly when he turned and said “I PAID FOR THIS MICROPHONE!” during a debate...

That's what I meant when I compared the two. Reagan was able to get things done, and he turned the country around. Would Trump do the same?

I know you took heat for your question, but don't sweat it.

You're right.

Trump is the next Reagan...in that he speaks to YOU and not to the people who are going to tell you what to think about what he said.

You make some great points.

I’m struck by two things while reading this thread.

First, how full of crap all the Trump bashers are in claiming Trump supporters worship everything the Donald says. Just looking at this thread puts the lie to that little bit of excuse making for their belligerence.

Second, how all these people keep lamenting all the qualities Trump doesn’t have.

Wake up people! The folks who gave you those affectations are the ones who got us into this mess!

why are so many people hitching their wagon to a man that was a democrat just a few short years ago?

Because there are many fickle people who are dazzled by the next shiny object, or the newest bandwagon. You would think that conservatives would take a more reasoned and deliberate approach.

Other that Trump's immigration plank, for everything else he would do "something terrific". Wow! that is a rather deep candidate.

No. Reagan called to the best in us.

I’m not certain yet what is going on with Trump, but I don’t trust it so far- though I’d really like to.

Kneejerk hero worship of some mouthy New Yorker narcissist doesn't cut it in my book.

And temper tantrums from old timers shames FR. Hyperbole and histrionics has no currency here.

You've been here so long, but can't construct arguments any better than n00bs?

Your going to have to do much better than "if you don't agree with me you're hopeless" to get the respect you think a long beard deserves.

Does the “POP Crowd” actually get something that we can’t see? A simplicity that we tend to pick apart while the masses move in favor without the depth and breath of the details we actually analyze?

Analysis is only good if it's right. Much of what we're getting is little better than Mac vs. PC caviling.

Team-mates and casting...

I can see Trump throwing a long ball and asking for resumes ( soon ) for his new admin from all titan's in Business, and many of them are the top notcher's in the trenches of so many companies you never even heard of. Oh my, would the fur fly in DC... In regards team mates and attitude, he will hire the best the make him look good and the country great. Both of you folks know that attitude comes from doing, you have to engage and do it and your attitude changes, but the initial spark is a positive one of I can and it is no big deal, lets get on with it. Perhaps having Trump for 4 or 8 years re-igniting that within the slacker generations we have now will be worth is price of admission.

Can I put a VP out their that is non DC and boy will I get Daggers here from FR? Former CEO of Ford Motor Company Allan Mulally. Trump / Mulally anyone?

I keep saying it because few want to engage the subject..

The reason no one wants to engage it is because there's no objective way to determine what's GOING to happen.

That makes any discussion just an exercise in stroking your ego.
