Is Trump the next Reagan? (vanity)
August 21, 2015 | me

I just finished watching a streaming video of Trump's rally in Alabama. And I gotta tell you, the guy spoke like Reagan would. Trump doesn't quite have Reagan's sense of humor, but otherwise, yep, Trump reminds me of Reagan.

"...style appeals to soo many people that are desperate for a leader."

That is exactly what scares me!!! I well remember my fellow CA conservatives on FR swooning over Schwartzenrenegger... a supposed Repellican, sleeping with the enemy and getting pillow-talked right out of doing the right things!!!

Reagan had served two terms as governor and was a proven conservative for many years before becoming President. Trump is no Reagan.

I've been here a dozen years longer than you, kiddo..

Alzheimer's.

.....but this stupid Trump love affair that's all the rage here has got some of the more sane among us having second thoughts about the direction FR has taken.

Nobody's making you stay. What's the point if you just want to insult everyone else?

"How sad is American politics that you have to know the people pissing off the leadership in “your” party are perhaps your friend?"

I was speaking to a friend tonight, and mentioned that I'm not completely sold on Trump yet, but it certainly appears he's making all the right enemies...

No. I hope that helps.

Without any reasoning behind it, actually not.

Oh, and for what it's worth I'm not quite sure how I'd answer my own question. As I noted in my post #1, Reagan was the real deal. Trump...eh, who knows at this point?

Kneejerk hero worship of some mouthy New Yorker narcissist doesn't cut it in my book.

No one asked you to perform knee jerk hero worship.

As far as the direction FR has taken, unless you want to buy FR from JIM ROB and dictate what can and can't be said, or what people can and cannot THINK, then why don't you just work on supporting YOUR CHOICE of candidate ?

Objectiveness seems lost both here and around the media’s play for air time.

Does the “POP Crowd” actually get something that we can’t see?

A simplicity that we tend to pick apart while the masses move in favor without the depth and breath of the details we actually analyze?

Reagan abandoned liberalism long before he was President. He was also Governor before he was President. Also the weight of his ego wasn’t keeping the moon in orbit.

Trump reminds me more of Wendell Wilkie.

To expound, in 1940 there was hunger among the electorate for a Republican who would go after the Nazis, isolationism was prevalent in the GOP. Wilkie caught fire even though he was a recent ex-dem and had no experience in office. Kinda a parallel with Trump and the illegals.

I wish I'd said that.

Ronald only had to fix the mess Carter left, after 4 years. Donald has to fix the mess Oflyface has left after 8.

For many years it was said "the business of government is business" and that didn't mean cronyism. It meant building American business, wealth and jobs.

Trump tonight made that case.

Thanks to the Reign Of Obeyme and the ensuing “fundamental transformation” of the US, the time for tact and civility is over.

It has not worked in the past and will not work in the future.

We face an enemy that will use “any means, necessary” to finalize the destruction of the United States, who publicly stated that “paybacks” were coming and indeed, they did.

“Reaching across the aisle” had gotten us nothing but bloody stumps pulled back.

We need a righteous, determined, belligerent bastard to reclaim our country.

Imagine Yeb! leading us out of this metaphorical desert.

Never happen.

“No More Mr Nice Guy” works for me.

The democrat party left Reagan..

Trump left the democrat party.

I don’t trust trim for the same reasons you likely don’t. With several other Conservatives in the race with proven track records, why are so many people hitching their wagon to a man that was a democrat just a few short years ago?
