Flashback: Trump brings birther charge against Cruz
The Hill ^ | March 23, 2015 | Ben Kamisar

Posted on 08/21/2015 4:19:13 AM PDT by Kevin C

Real estate tycoon Donald Trump cast doubt Monday on whether Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) can run for president, because Cruz was born in Canada.

"It’s a hurdle; somebody could certainly look at it very seriously," Trump said during a phone interview Monday on My Fox New York.

"He was born in Canada. If you know and when we all studied our history lessons, you are supposed to be born in this country, so I just don't know how the courts will rule on this."

March 23, 2015.

Just saying. March 23, 2015. That is now six months old.

March 23, 2015.

Before Trump even started running. This is not only a very clear attempt to stir up difficulties between the two candidates who are closest.

It is a LAME attempt.

Lame. Lame. Lame.

“Donald Trump has amassed a nine billion dollar fortune by having the brains to have the BEST staff he can hire ...”

Not true. He has amassed that fortune by buying politicians and using Eminent Domain to steal the property of his fellow Americans. He has actively played a large roll in the destruction of this country, so he has no credibility in his claim to want to make “America Strong Again.”

Trump is the problem, not the solution.

Trump's done extremely well in business, but he has hidden behind bankruptcy protection four times....

Might be well to clarify: these are not personal bankruptcies (chapter 11).
These are debt restructuring moves (Chapter 13).

Trump did not get walk away scot-free....he still had to repay the money.

There's a question as to whether bankruptcy was even Trump's idea---one ex-Trump exec's book recalled Trump's exec-team sometimes overruled him....made him do things he did not want to do.

The A/C bankruptcy benefitted banks---they had lent him so much money, they were literally in business w/ him....if he went down, they went down. So restructuring that debt benefitted them

Anything the GOPe and ilk can do is post old articles about something that is so stupid...

Trump has said nothing but positive about Cruz or Carson, the only two that have Trump's ‘respect’ from what I can see....

Cruz and Trump have met on several occasions, I see no reason for Trump to do any different than speak highly of these two...

people are getting desperate...doing stupid stuff, Trump will bite them back in about 2 days of this....

Trump asked the question. I don’t think it’s an unreasonable question.

not accurate ma’am, sorry....but it misses the point.

The point is this: his business career is held up as proof that he understands the macro economy and can turn it around. Even if his career did not include 4 bankruptices, it would not be proof of that. Even if he had worked his way up from nothing - while more compelling - personal wealth does NOT NOT NOT translate necessarily to the ability to stir the entire economy. Especially when that personal wealth is largely tied up in self assessment of the value of the name.

The only way to do that is to get government the hell out of the way - and I’ve heard precious little from him about that.

......get government the hell out of the way....

Amen to that.

However, my comments were accurate WRT laws governing bankruptcies........laws I will continue to clarify when given the opportunity.

Of course. Anything Trump said more than two weeks ago shall be disregarded — unless of course he said something you like.

Good to note that old date, because it shows how quickly Trump can readjust to a changing environment. The man can turn on a dime like nobody else. We obviously want that fantastic character trait in a potential POTUS.

Might be well to clarify: these are not personal bankruptcies (chapter 11). These are debt restructuring moves (Chapter 13).

Actually Chapter 11 is the corporate bankruptcy (restructuring) venue, not Chapter 13. Also Trump's first Chapter 11 bankruptcy did impact him personally because he used his personal wealth as collateral, a lesson he learned from when structuring subsequent corporate debt.

Your point about having to repay the debt is well taken however.

Cruz’s mom born in Delaware to U S citizen parents. Someone is having an orgasm trying to stir up trouble.
