Conservative blogger Erick Erickson is hoping the momentum of the Donald Trump presidential campaign can lead to the overthrow of House Speaker John Boehner.
Erickson recounted on his blog Wednesday that despite the effort by conservative House members like Reps. Jim Bridenstine (R-Okla.), Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), and Steve King (R-Iowa), Boehner was reinstated as Speaker by a slim margin of victory in January.
He credited Boehners victory to his ironclad agreement to conservatives that he would fight tooth and nail against President Obamas executive amnesty on the Department of Homeland Security.
Boehner broke that promise and funded DHS with barely a fight.
The implications of this cave go far beyond the policy of amnesty. The Speaker is not just the partisan leader of House Republicans, Erickson wrote. He is the guardian of the House as an institution and its prerogatives, namely the power of the purse, and in bowing to this President, Boehner showed himself to be unfit for the office.
Adding insult to injury, Erickson claimed that Boehner not only caved, he commissioned ads against twelve of the congressman who voted against the short-term extension of DHS funding.
The Speaker has a long history of punishing conservative who have stood up for their base and values. He has also stripped members who voted against him of their committee chairmanships and other powers.
Thats where Trump comes into play.
Erickson said that the drive of Trumps supporters comes from the anger they feel toward broken promises from Congress. He stated that Republicans can use that anger to oust Boehner.

Efu eric.
‘es still trying to be relevant I see....
Trump’s momentum has already been used to get rid of you, Erick.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut.
Erickson has proven himself to be a pitiful RINO, but I think the article is correct, the Trump momentum SHOULD be used to oust Boehner, and his whole moderate cabal of committee chairmen!
Someone get Erick away from the grownup’s table.
It will be interesting when Nancy, Harry, Mitch, John and Obama come back to DC to battle Trump together.
Rush probably took pity on him and threw him that bone.
Erickson really wants to be relevant. Go away, ya douchebag.
I wish we could get rid of Boehner. I heard Erickson filing in for Limbaugh over a month ago and he sounded like nothing more than a Trump lacky.
Is this not the same guy as from that red state blog?
And now he believes he’s giving Trump strategy? What a pathetic individual.
I know let’s have a repeat of 2006 and put Nancy back in as speaker. //
and desperate. His daugher’s feelings cost him his relevance. Live by the PC, die by the PC.
I know lets have a repeat of 2006 and put Nancy back in as speaker. //
The Dems have no need for Pelosi if the GOP speaker is a progressive statist like Boehner.
Erickson has the gall to show his face?
Erich, stay lost, you loser!
Erickson is a whore. He now wants Trump to carry his water but otherwise vilifies Trump and considers him a phony conservative. I hate those who will not back a self-determined leader. They will hide in the shadows as the courageous warrior does their fighting and then trash the wounded warrior if he crashes.
Eric who?
But, but...aren’t those coattails toxic, Erick?
Not nearly enough.
We have to get rid of Mr. Maggo, too... Mitch whatshisname.
