F.B.I. Tracking Path of Email to Hillary Clinton at State Dept.
New York Times ^ | August 14, 2015 | MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT and DAVID E. SANGER

F.B.I. agents investigating Hillary Rodham Clinton’s private email server are seeking to determine who at the State Department passed highly classified information from secure networks to Mrs. Clinton’s personal account, according to law enforcement and diplomatic officials and others briefed on the investigation.

To track how the information flowed, agents will try to gain access to the email accounts of many State Department officials who worked there while Mrs. Clinton was secretary of state, the officials said. State Department employees apparently circulated the emails on unclassified systems in 2009 and 2011, and some were ultimately forwarded to Mrs. Clinton.

They were not marked as classified, the State Department has said, and it is unclear whether its employees knew the origin of the information.

The F.B.I. is also trying to determine whether foreign powers, especially China or Russia, gained access to Mrs. Clinton’s private server, although at this point, any security breaches are speculation.

Law enforcement officials have said that Mrs. Clinton, who is the front-runner for the 2016 Democratic nomination for president, is not a target of the investigation, and she has said there is no evidence that her account was hacked. There has also been no evidence that she broke the law, and many specialists believe the occasional appearance of classified information in her account was probably of marginal consequence.

A spokesman for Mrs. Clinton said in a statement on Friday that she “took the handling of classified information very seriously.’’

“She always received classified materials in secure settings, either by phone, video conference, on paper or in person,’’ said the spokesman, Nick Merrill. “If, however, some material unknowingly ended up somewhere on the State Department’s unclassified email system, we want to continue to be as helpful as possible in getting to the bottom of that.’’

Receiving stolen goods can not be a crime unless the goods are stamped stolen. See how this works?

Well, if the server is really wiped, this is one way to “reconstruct” things, trace messages that were sent to her from the other end.

Another would be to check if she used a 3rd-party spam filtering service, as all her incoming email would have been routed through their servers first, and they may well have a record of them, at least the header info.

...and the required annual Information Assurance training I completed earlier this week suggests otherwise.

The little rats will give up the bigger rats and they will give up the even bigger rats...until they get all the way to Madame Hillary.

No expert here, but if they used a 3rd party, I doubt that those servers still exist either. Part of the deal on that would be drop the servers in a vat of acid the minute the SHTF.

Total spin on the part of the NYT. If any LEOs had actually said that, they would quote them.

Those emails also exist on the computers that sent them. If the drives have been destroyed or wiped clean, or the emails altered, that just proves that they destroyed evidence in a federal investigation. That’s a felony worth up to 20 years and a lifetime ban on high federal office.

Unless the MSM decides it is a crime and has it on night after night NOTHING will happen

The New York Times article was written by “Mr. COVERUP” and the persons who gave Hillary the classified emails is named “ Mr. DEAD-END and “Mrs STONEWALL”.

And that’s the truth!

“My question is why did she have this data?”

1. Proper security clearance

2. Need to know

I’ve been wondering the same thing. She shouldn’t have been privy to any of the inner workings of satellites, or anything else that could compromise our nation’s security. What has transpired is treasonous.

If someone passed the information to Mrs. Clinton, after stripping the ‘top secret’ designation from the communique, you can damn sure bet that they were instructed to do so. Who would do that on their own?

I really think that there is a major misunderstanding of what is being referred to as "classified information" in the news reports.

Here is what I believe is the reality:

1. There will be no instances found of actually scans of classified documents found in any of the files, even those that have been erased if they are recovered. Remember, Hillary had a lawyer and presumably her close associates go through those documents looking for sensitive information. They would not have missed a document marked TOP SECRET. Nor would scans of any level of classified documents been missed. Just not possible.

2. Therefore the idea that "Top Secret" and similar markings were removed by some unknown entity is not going to be found either. That has been nothing but MSM speculation right from the get-go.

3. What will be found is the inadvertent disclosure of highly classified material as part of the normal conversation that goes on in any email. In the case in question those conversations just naturally involved matters related to the highest levels of National Security.

For example assume that Huma and Hillary and Cheryl are discussing news reports that detail a program where drones are collecting images of Pakistani nuclear storage facilities.

Assume that Huma or Hillary or Cherly makes the seemingly innocuous comment: "How in the heck did they find out about that?"

She has just divulged Top Secret information by in effect confirming the existence of the surveillance program

Perhaps, it depends on what kind of 3rd party company she used. There are smaller companies that do filtering, but most people use one of the bigger outfits, like Postini(they’re bought out by google now), Barracuda Networks, McAfee, etc. I don’t think those guys would wipe their own servers for Hillary, and make themselves accessories to federal felonies.

Now if it was a smaller 3rd party like the guys who helped her set up and wipe the server, then they probably would conveniently “lose” any records on their end. They’re already complicit anyway.

I think the MSM was recently very interested that some Republican had several speeding tickets over the past 20 years. The MSM is busy researching important national security matters like someone’s speeding tickets so you will understand that they are just too busy to ask some boring technical questions about some old e-mail messages Hillary sent or received.
