At 4:12 in the audio, Katrina Campins told CNN she later found out after the debate that 3 contestants allegedly threatened to boycott the debate if Trump took part so that is part of why he raised his hand to the question asked by Megyn Kelly.

The idea for a debate boycott came from "donors," not from candidates. Donors suggested that Bush, Walker and Rubio refuse to share a stage with Trump. None of the three took the bait.
