Study: More People Developing Dementia Earlier, Death Rates Soaring

Researchers found that people are developing dementia a decade earlier than they were 20 years ago, possibly due to factors such as pollution and insecticides, as reported by The Columbus Dispatch.

The study compared data from 21 Western countries between 1989 and 2010 and found that the disease is more commonly diagnosed in people in their late 40s, in addition to climbing death rates.

The research suggest the issue is particularly severe in the United States. Study authors say neurological deaths in men over the age of 75 have nearly tripled, and have risen more than five-fold in women. Scientists partially attribute this rise to environmental factors and widespread use of pesticides, according to the London Times.

...

Deaths caused by neurological disease have risen in 55- to 74-year-olds and have almost doubled in those over 75 years old, according to the study. Sixty percent of the increase in deaths were due to dementia, with 40 percent of deaths attributed to other neurological disease like Parkinson’s and motor neuron disease.

“The rate of increase in such a short time suggested a silent or even a hidden epidemic, in which environmental factors must play a major part, not just aging,” lead study author Colin Pritchard said.

Other researchers are careful to note that environmental factors are only a possible element of the findings, and in no way proven.

And just how sure are you that could be properly determined?

Think;

The article does appear to be mostly BS, but if there is a large increase in dementia my guess for a cause would be alcohol and marijuana use along with obesity and inactivity.

I believe COPD is sometimes caused by lung damage when you’re young. Lots more exposure to the bad stuff 50-80 years ago, when today’s old people were young.

You’re probably not only healthier but also saving a buck or two. It’s definitely cheaper to grow your own veggies.

I think the dementia is the result of high fructose corn syrup.
There, I have spoken. I never liked Coca Cola with that stuff in it.

Bob Dole's fault.

It’s entirely possible. I won’t take statin drugs at all.

I also believe that the continual reduction of saturated fat is not healthy. They started out at 12% and now its 7%. They also advise only 46g of protein. Ridiculous. No one can maintain their muscles or build more with that piddly amount of Protein.

Furthermore, Cholesterol is necessary for good health. High levels of insulin cause production of cholesterol to be stimulated and fill the cells. Since the cells are full, there is not need to send LDL receptors to get more.

Controlling insulin by reducing simple sugars and starches from your diet will bring your cholesterol to a healthier state. Also Vitamins k2, A, D, and magnesium are necessary to get calcium into your bones and not clogging your arteries.

Where do you get Vitamin K2 - butter, whole milk, etc from grass fed cows, and eggs from free range chickens and certain fermented foods such as yogurt and gouda cheese.

The causative factor for cholesterol and heart disease is supported by weak observations of correlations. Blaming Cholesterol is like blaming the fireman for showing up to put out the fire. The fireman didn’t start the fire.

Also, once you get your cholesterol too low, you die from other problems, lowering it doesn’t lower the mortality rates if you consider all other causes of death. Well any way, don’t even get me started, I could complain about it all night, and I have to get to bed soon.

Most of your cholesterol is manufactured by your body. Cholesterol you eat has very little to do with it. However, other parts of your diet do have impact, as I discussed in the earlier reply.

Thank God I can’t tolerate these drugs.

I’ve had high bad cholesterol for about ten years and my primary care doctor is still trying to get me to give them “one more try.”

Some people die early. Those that escape such a death are likely to die later of something else. It could be “possibly due to factors such as pollution and insecticides”. It could also be possibly due to increased ice caps on Mars. REAL scientists don’t speculate. Those who escape an early death cannot escape a later death.

The article linked (videos and text article) pretty much explains it all. I’ve read and listened to a variety of articles and books on the subject, but this is pretty much covers the topic. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2015/08/02/heart-disease-risk-factors.aspx?e_cid=20150802Z1_DNL_art_1&utm_source=dnl&utm_medium=email&utm_content=art1&utm_campaign=20150802Z1&et_cid=DM81279&et_rid=1060607697

Please make a point of taking the time to read and listen. I honestly believe that this is important.

I’m drinking about 2 tablespoons of food grade DE a day as a chelation agent and artery scrubber. There are interesting theories about the effectiveness of DE to remove plaque from clogged arteries, and since I refuse to take statins, I’m trying this.

Don’t know if it’s working on the arteries, but my fingernails have never looked so good!

I think the dementia is the result of high fructose corn syrup.

That and other ingredients being put into foods..

I am trying to control my Type II though diet and have done a lot of independent research...

Pulled from an medical article...

Before the age of food processing people had a good balance of fats, especially omega 3 and 6, with a ratio of about 2:1 or 3:1 (2 parts omega 6, to 1 part omega 3). The ratio now is about 20:1! This high imbalance leads to inflammatory related diseases such as autoimmune, cardiovascular, and oncologic. Consuming large amounts of vegetable oils wrecks havoc on the natural balance damaging our whole body, leading to irritability, learning disabilities, liver toxicity, decreased immune function, mental and physical growth problems, increased acidity, and they have been linked to mental disorders like Alzheimer’s, dementia as well as accelerated aging - all signs of inflammation and acidity in the body. A 1994 study appearing in a leading medical journal showed that almost three quarters of the fat clogged in TheICTM.org 57 arteries was unsaturated. This means it was not the “artery clogging” saturated fats, but vegetable oils! On the same note, high heat applied to oils during frying turns them into hydrocarbons that can cause cancer. Typical frying temperature is about 400 degrees F (200 c) and can reach up to 600-700 degrees F. When fats / oils are heated to such temperatures the good healthy fats (CIS fatty acid) are converted to the bad TRANS fats. The unsaturated good fats then begin to behave like saturated bad fats. Trans fats also interfere with the body’s usage of omega 3 fats.

I agree. No pesticides in my garden for over 40 years and the harvests are huge. Especially cukes, tomatoes and green beans which have some nasty pests from time to time.
