Study: More People Developing Dementia Earlier, Death Rates Soaring

Researchers found that people are developing dementia a decade earlier than they were 20 years ago, possibly due to factors such as pollution and insecticides, as reported by The Columbus Dispatch.

The study compared data from 21 Western countries between 1989 and 2010 and found that the disease is more commonly diagnosed in people in their late 40s, in addition to climbing death rates.

The research suggest the issue is particularly severe in the United States. Study authors say neurological deaths in men over the age of 75 have nearly tripled, and have risen more than five-fold in women. Scientists partially attribute this rise to environmental factors and widespread use of pesticides, according to the London Times.

Deaths caused by neurological disease have risen in 55- to 74-year-olds and have almost doubled in those over 75 years old, according to the study. Sixty percent of the increase in deaths were due to dementia, with 40 percent of deaths attributed to other neurological disease like Parkinson’s and motor neuron disease.

“The rate of increase in such a short time suggested a silent or even a hidden epidemic, in which environmental factors must play a major part, not just aging,” lead study author Colin Pritchard said.

Other researchers are careful to note that environmental factors are only a possible element of the findings, and in no way proven.

Good for you heartwood but I'm not doing as well. Leaf eaters, stem borers and bugs of all types seem to eat more than I do.

The 'natural' repellants don't work very well, I'd hate to think I had to depend on my garden to feed us for very long...With out sprays.

An older person needs to keep his/her mind active and solving problems or puzzles and keeping up with the news so the brain is exercised. I have visited rehabilitation hospitals and nursing homes and saw these people sitting in front of a TV and staring at it with no emotion. They were like zombies.

I am 81 and there is no way I’m sitting down and becoming a vegetable. To avoid that, I’ll go to a shooting range and practice hitting the target, then eat a burger, go home and write prepper articles and post on Free Republic. After a healthy dinner, I’ll have an Amaretto or three, and watch a horror movie or read a wild romance book.

I also work cross word puzzles every day and play with my Yorkie 4 lb. sweet dog.

I don’t have time to have dementia.

Try food grade DE on the eggplants and beans. Peaches too maybe. I got a hand held duster just for that. I use it on my squash too to keep the squash bugs to a low roar.

I don’t mind the JBs on the beans - they’re only harming the leaves. And as for dusting every peach on the tree!!!

Maybe the eggplants? Does it persist? Do you wear a mask? Silica dust can’t be good for the lungs.

I wear an n95 mask and stand upwind.

Need to reapply if you have heavy dew on the lower leaves or if it rains.

It’s cheap cheap cheap too.

My only requirement is that it’s food grade DE.

Thanks, I’ll ask my doctor about giving it a try. Actually, my lipids aren’t all that bad. I’m only on Lipitor for its so-called preventative effect (in preventing high cholesterol). But if I don’t really need it to lower my cholesterol right this minute, and it’s causing other problems, I don’t want to stay on it any longer.

I was on niacin in the old days when I was hitting the gym a lot and I remember from those days that it could also be used to lower cholesterol. It was popular with weight lifters, too, and that’s how I learned about it. But I didn’t think it helped me all that much in my goal to add additional muscle mass and I quit taking it. Personally, I didn’t have a problem with flushing once I got used to it (but you’re right, you have to take it easy at first).

Anyhoo, I really want off statins. They’re playing havoc with my short-term memory. There are other ways to keep your lipids in check (namely, diet and exercise, and maybe some niacin, too), and I want to go back to that approach, thanks.

Possibly.

We definitely grow a lot of food w/o insecticides though.

I grew nearly 1000lbs of winter squash one year using no insecticides.

LOL. Atta Gal, Marcella!

I actually have been doing some reading on Alzheimer’s. It’s starting to look like a type of diabetes. If that’s true, then simple sugars etc. probably playing a big part.

The more I read about various diseases, the more convinced I am that low nutrition due to the factory farm/processing of much of our food is likely playing a big part in this.

We have gone back to buying our beef and eggs from a local farmer as much as possible. My daughter and I are talking about going into partnership with one of her friends to buy some chickens to raise also. She has a farm and is willing to do all the hard work(including slaughtering them) for a share in the meat.

As soon as we found out Costco carried the Mexican Coca Cola, we bought it. It was like the Coke of my childhood.

I blame statin drugs. Lack of cholesterol causes deficiency of nutrients
in the brain, Alzheimers and Dementia. Eggs are the good source of good
Cholesterol.

I'm not sure about bacon though, but why take the chance. I recommend applewood.
