Cecil's demise has brought about one small benefit. In my classes, I have a discussion where I present to my students the lives of Patrick Tillman and Robert Mugabe. This summer term has been the first where the universal reaction of the class has not been "who the [expletive] is Robert Mugabe?": they knew him as the guy who took care of Cecil.
P.S. The purpose of the assignment is essentially to mess with their brains. I begin by pointing out that Tillman was scrupulously ethical, gave up everything for his country, and died from friendly fire at 27, while Mugabe has been scrupulously unethical, and at 91 has lived a very long, very successful, very happy life. I then ask the students whom they would rather be. Everyone says Tillman. Then I point out that Tillman was an atheist which means (if Christianity is correct, see tagline) he is not only dead but in eternal hell, while Mugabe is a practicing Catholic, meaning if he's been keeping up with his confessions and gets extreme unction, he not only will have had a wonderful life but (perhaps after some time in Purgatory, I will allow my Catholic friends to sort that out) will obtain eternal bliss in heaven. I then ask the students again, based on the new information, whom they would rather be, at which point I get to sit back and enjoy the rest of the discussion.
And what if the non-poacher turns out to be a non RICH AMERICAN? Heads exploding across the globe.

All the obvious BS to come out of this non story certainly throws it all into question.

Has this been published somewhere half-way reliable? The last I read he paid $55,000 to two well-known licensed hunting guides to go on a licensed hunt.
Or is this very veiled sarcasm?

Except “ PAY ME!’ Lions are a scourge on the people, as witnessed by the article yesterday where the people of Zim just couldn’t believe white people gave a shiite about about it, never heard of Cecil and said “Another damned lion dead? What a waste of time doing that research. It is common knowledge that lions get their meat from the same place everybody else does: The meat section of the grocery store.
Lions are very cute, adorable and huggable just like our indoor kitty cats are.
Even Bible pictures show a lion laying next to a lamb. Lions are sweet and docile.
Meanwhile, obama eats dog meat.
I am all for hunting most hunters are the best stewards of the forest really caring about nature. This guy is not one of them this is a trophy hunter only in it to show what a big prick he is....this is not the first time he has been accused of poaching. there is a big difference between someone who hunts dear ad Elk to that of someone who goes after a endangered species.
There’s still the issue that the animal was tagged and not reported. You’re supposed to report it to the authorities if you’ve killed a tagged animal there, irregardless of whatever property you shot it on. They didn’t just ignore that, the guide admits that after they found out it was a tagged animal, the decision was made to actively cover that up.
This dentist has gotten in trouble before and previously had his license suspended for a year. No sympathy here.
