Trump: I Would Give Non-Criminal Illegal Aliens Legal Status
NewsMax ^ | 7/29/2015 | Greg Richter

Donald Trump says as president he would ultimately give some illegal immigrants legal status and isn't ruling out a pathway to citizenship, CNN reports.

That sounds different than what he said during his June 16 announcement speech when critics say he insulted Mexicans.

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. … They're sending people that have lots of problems," he said then. "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Those who are not committing crimes could find legal status under a Trump administration, he told CNN's Dana Bash in comments aired Wednesday on CNN's "The Situation Room."

"It depends," Trump told Bash. "Look, it sound cold, and it sounds hard. … Our country is going to hell. We have to have a system where people are legally in our country."

While Mexico makes it hard for immigrants to enter, Trump said, "With us they walk across, … immediately they're members, call them members of our country. It's not right. "

One of Trump's GOP rivals, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, appeared immediately afterward, saying Trump's comments sound a lot like amnesty.

Trump told TMZ that if they are here and are working productive jobs (illegally) he would let them stay.

So 2 crimes are better than 1 apparently

Heh. Impy's right that Trump pulled an Oberweis with the illegal immigration issue. Take an issue you know conservatives are passionate about, market the hell out of it to boost your poll numbers, and throw red meat to the GOP base about it during interviews.

But Oberweis waited until AFTER getting the nomination for a major statewide office to cave on immigration and flip-flop on amnesty (after presenting himself as a no-compromise, deport 'em all, tough talking badass hardliner during the primary)

Trump, on the other hand, is trying to have it both ways DURING the primary. Shades of the Newt Gingrich crowd in 2012: they pulled an Oberweis with their preachy attitude about voting ("we must ALL vote for the highest polling conservative, or the vote will be split and a RINO will win!). The difference was that the Oberweis people waited an election cycle to flip-flip on the "MUST vote for highest polling conservative" talking point. Gingrich fans flip-flopped in the SAME election cycle. Once Newt ended in a distant third or fourth place, they quickly abandoned their talking point.

We have plenty of our own low-skill Americans to fill those jobs and they never should have been given to illegals.

We could and would adjust.

Better than the 90 million (once chain migration kicks in) low-skill, Leftist new voters it would soon enough lead to.

Does one become a “criminal” when one breaks federal laws (a felony) to invade this country illegally? Hmmm...it seems all illegal invader aliens are criminals once they cross the border.

I heard him specifically rule out a pathway to citizenship.

So did he do a complete reversal or are the hyenas trying to muddy the waters?

And other than Tom Tancredo or Pat Buchanan, both of whom are NOT RUNNING this year

The Pat Buchanan of 1988 maybe, the Buchanan of now is one strange thing.

I agree on the demographics. But it will take at least a decade to get Americans off welfare (public and private-as in living in the basement) and back to work. The Dems will fight it tooth-and-nail, the courts will block it ever chance they get (as they did in California in the early 90s), and compromises will have to be made.

IT SIMPLY WILL NOT HAPPEN QUICKLY...no matter who is president, they are not going to shut down the country while we wait for today’s millenials and bums to get to work. Talk to that effect is simply PANDERING (as in Santorum) and Trump doesn’t do that.

As to the demographics, that depends on whether Trump or anyone else can understand it. There are options that allow for the use of these workers, but without the demographic impacts - such as being a guest worker where your family stays back at home. If a candidate understands this, maybe we can still get their labor (at least for a while), but without turning us into another Argentina. Trump and Cruz are smart enough to understand that...the others don’t seem to be, or are already compromised.

Trump is a fake everyone. Stop listening to the paid off media talkers.

He’s been a liberal for ages and now, like Brian from family guy after he hung out with Rush Limbaugh, he’s still a liberal, only one that knows just a bit of conservatism.

Once the debates come, if they’re managed well, he’s through.

I don’t buy your pro-amnesty BS at all.

We’ve got more discouraged workers and a lower percentage of the available workforce working than we’ve had in decades. We’ve got gazillions of low-skill blacks who could well be swept up into training programs to make them perfectly fine skilled construction workers.

We’ve got teenagers and millenials priced out of the workforce because of all the cheap illegal labor. We’ve stunted automation and advancement in various agricultural and food industries right up through the pipeline because of the cheap labor.

Boomtown demand for more workers would be a wonderful dynamic for major portions of the American workforce.

The problem with this article is that it’s going by a CNN *report*....not on what Trump has actually said, on this issue. Note the ONLY, actual quotes...

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. … They’re sending people that have lots of problems,” he said then. “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

And....

“It depends,” Trump told Bash. “Look, it sound cold, and it sounds hard. … Our country is going to hell. We have to have a system where people are legally in our country.”

I then listened to the actual interview (linked) with Bash, of CNN. Trump actually said, as he’s said many times before, that the illegals have to go back, and if they return (want to work, etc.) they have to do so LEGALLY.

Here, you can watch and see for yourself....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCwc57x3-9U

He’s stronger on this issue than ANY of the candidates have been, as far as I know...as far as 1) building the fence 2) Letting our BP do their job 3) making those here ILLEGALLY leave, and if they want to come back, to do so LEGALLY and 4) fixing system to allow those - from other countries, who want to come here, to do so LEGALLY.

If you know of another candidate, who has come out stronger against ILLEGAL immigration, and what to do with those here ILLEGALLY, please let me know. TIA.

Well gosh, he is not going to throw all the illegals out. NEITHER IS ANYONE ELSE. So you are not going to vote for him because of this....or that. So we will get more of the same. More illegals, more abortions, more corruption from the GOPe.

Simple fact, it is either Jeb/more of the same, or Trump/possibility of real change.

Other candidates can't win.

Amnesty - ANYTHING that bestows benefit upon those who illegally enter the US.

A ‘pathway to citizenship’, ‘dreamer’ status, ‘legal work status’, etc are all benefits.

We must STOP GIVING PRIZES for invading!

Anything less is just incentivizing MORE MILLIONS to enter illegally. Surely, if we learned ANYTHING from Simpson-Mazzoli we learned THAT.

the fallacy of your thoughts as all employers know is the the people of whom you speak can’t pass the drug test, won’t report on time or won’t report at all after the first few days.

the low skilled blacks of which you write pride themselves on being both low skilled and generally uneducated and can never be trained to do anything worthwhile. perhaps if they are alive at 30 or so , they might make the effort but that is far from certain. their hate is too great

“I don’t buy YOUR pro-amnesty BS at all.”

Nice try with the Alinsky #13 tactic, but I’m well-aware of it. Lots of people here try it on me - never works, just makes them look silly.

Sorry, but I am not the problem for you. I don’t determine what candidates think regarding Open Borders and Amnesty. I’m just letting people here know that Tom Tancredo or a clone of him is simply NOT RUNNING and there NO REPUBLICAN that will clear this country of Illegals overnight, attempt to clear the country, or even campaign to do that.

The question is whether they understand what Illegal Immigration is doing to us - Trump and Cruz do. Walker, Bush, and Rubio, of course, do not. If they can’t understand the problem, they won’t be able to fix it. No one else matters because no one else has the potential to be the nominee. People can either accept the one that comes closest, or others will pick their candidate and then pick their president, as happened in 2008 and 2012.

Someone who simply closes the barn door after the horses are out—or, in this case, the illegals are in, hasn’t solved the problem.

And I suggest that you might not be the best judge of who looks silly in your pro-amnesty Freeper exchanges.
