I was driving in to work earlier this week, listening to a local talk show, when I did something I almost never do. I called in.
The subject was the decision by the governing board of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to allow openly gay adults to serve as den leaders, scoutmasters, and camp counselors. How could I resist? I am an Eagle Scout, and I have a book coming out next week called Scarlet Letters that deals with this larger subject.
When the producer screened me about my stance, I decided to hold off on more complex issues like freedom of assembly and the historical scout requisite to be “morally straight” and focus instead on the pragmatic.
I told him that as an Eagle Scout, I can attest to the cross-generational intimacy of the scouting experience. Young boys, older teens, and men share a lot of private time. They swim together, shower together, sleep in the same tents together. On the everyday level, I told him, I would worry about the Jerry Sandusky factor.
The producer flipped. “Are you saying that all gays are pedophiles?” he shot back angrily. “No,” I said, “but would you let your twelve-year-old daughter sleep in a tent with an eighteen-year-old boy?”
He didn’t get my drift, so I had to explain it. For a man to find an adolescent sexually attractive is not pedophilia. It is human nature. Pedophilia means an attraction to pre-pubescent children, eleven or younger. To join the BSA, a boy must be at least eleven. The Scouts have always encouraged older adolescents to assume intermediate leadership positions. So it would not be unusual for an eighteen-year-old to share a tent with twelve- and thirteen-year-olds.

Why the worry over whether OLDER folks teach the young?
I'd suspect many Boy Scouts learned stuff from kids their OWN age!

I recall a week long summer canoe trip where one of our campsites got completely inundated in an hour long torrential downpour. Everything that wasn’t in a garbage bag got soaking wet.
Our scoutmasters said to heck with worrying about it and stripped off their clothes and went swimming, followed by the rest of us.

No but the opportunity might arise in a venture patrol of older scouts in which girls are members. The same is true for queers but those involved would shun if not outright not permit such an arrangement

The coolest thing in this article is the pointing out of the left’s position on the Catholic Church vs the Boy Scouts.
They despise “pedophile priests,” which was extremely rare: it was 90% young pubescent boys molested.
At the same time, they want gay young men IN TENTS with these same boys.
DOES NOT COMPUTE with any logic, unless you realize, as Cahill does, that the left’s actual goal is the destruction of traditional society. Great point and it really makes you think. Do the lefties and their media winged monkeys REALLY want what they say they want. Or are they just trying to break down good traditional values?

But would you let your twelve-year-old son sleep in a tent with a or several twelve-year-old homosexual boy(s) or with a or several twelve-year-old transgender “boy?” (Honestly can’t begin to figure out what to call this. Ex.: A born boy identifying as a girl or a born girl identifying as a boy, whom may or may not possess girly or boy parts, and/or transitioning and/or fill in the blank). What comes next?

Failure to weed out gays in the priesthood early on,
the Church did not fail whatsoever then, in fact just the opposite. It succeeded spectacularly in fulfilling its purpose; the recruitment of homosexuals to the seminaries...
Why would the Church be in the business of recruiting homosexuals? Just a numbers game, nothing more...effete men have always been attracted to the clergy, and the increased secularization of the culture cut into the body of men willing to spend a lifetime in ministry...the dynamic that changed in the ‘70’s was the perceived freedom to act on the dysfunction, whereas in the past it was more prudent to practice chastity...

You begin as a child loving your family, then you acquire friends you love, in those loves you learn compassion or love for people in general, finally when you have learned those kinds of love you begin to learn about sexual love, the kind you will need in your spouse along with the first three loves. Then you have children and discover new depth to loving your family.
But in school and on the playground children are taught to have contempt for their parents, that they may not have special friends and rather then to love other humans they are taught that they are disposable.
What chance do they have of becoming balanced adults?

Back when I was an assistant scoutmaster it was preferable to have the scoutmaster be a married man. It also was pretty wrong in scouting to be a scoutmaster who cheated on your wife too.
