The Daily Beast took a predictable swipe at Donald Trump yesterday by generating some “breaking news” which is actually a decades old and long abandoned story from Trump’s high profile divorce from his former wife, Ivana. The “story” in question, which Ivana Trump herself refuted shortly after it initially broke, related to comments she made during their divorce where she said she “felt violated” during a particular sexual encounter.
Business Insider offers a brief history of where this tired old chestnut originated.
When the allegations first surfaced in 1993 Ivana Trump issued a statement clarifying that she didn’t mean the term in a “a literal or criminal sense.”
A spokesperson for Trump, who is currently a frontrunner in many polls of the Republican primary, provided a statement to Business Insider claiming the incident was “old news and it never happened.” They also claimed Trump’s ex-wife, Ivana Trump, made up the “rape” allegation as part of an effort to “exploit” him during their early 90’s divorce proceedings.
“This is an event that has been widely reported on in the past, it is old news and it never happened,” the Trump spokesperson said. “It is a standard lawyer technique, which was used to exploit more money from Mr. Trump especially since he had an ironclad prenuptial agreement.” This story might not have had enough legs to make it to the front page of the weekly coupon clipper if Trump’s attorney hadn’t decided to fire off a particularly ill considered attack on a reporter. As Trump defeats these MSM attacks he gets stronger and gives an example of how candidates should FIGHT BACK vs the media.

I’m thinking it’s their last desperate attempt to keep Trump off the debate stage. This is becoming real-life drama. Can’t wait to see how Trump pushes back on this one.
How the leftwing media works. Run a hit piece article, excerpting from a book 25 years ago. And then have the rest of the media (both left and right) cover your article with headlines using the word rape and Trump. Perfect execution.
BTW, any conservative site that uses rape in the headline is doing it to hurt Trump. They know how it works with SEO and drive by headline readers.
The leftwing media has no such concern for other people’s wives and Bill Clinton.

Amazingly it seems like most of the people trying to push this on FR are the people backing the guy with all the excitement of wet cardboard from Wisconsin.
Almost all of the GOP field would NEVER have withstood these level of attacks, and their supporters would be spending every day whining about the “drive-by media” and how unfair they are.
But you have at least one guy that hits back 10 times as hard (and will in this case), and far too many people on our side just assume the fetal position because he just “seems so mean”.
Three days from now the derivative stories will still get posted here with headline responders trashing the ex for bringing it up ‘now’. And there will be at least one blog posted in the News Forum with the headline ‘Breaking:...’

Well, it was bound to happen since Trump has a lot of personal baggage, and I have no doubt that the GOP-E was behind this hit attempt.
The problem for Trump is not a decades-old story.
It’s the way he and his associates respond to the story that’s dangerous. Anything that fuels the WAR ON WOMEN!!! narrative will play right into the media’s hands.
He needs to proceed carefully.
We'll find out who but just as well to get it out now rather than later. Some in the DNC bunkers are sad today.
They're still working on the ex-wives. Sexual accusations come later if Trump is still in the running.
