I have been posting since the 1990’s first under another name then when I changed computers under my present name. I have regularly posted what is said about not posting for 13 years is simply not true and is easily checked.

When did you first suffer from brain damage?

If you have been posting since the 1990's then you would know that hawking for gun control is not going to go over well on Free Republic.

I can only conclude that you are a troll or someone has overlooked your liberal gun grabbing tendencies for 15 years or more.

The second amendment applies to all citizens, not just those to whom the government grants permits.

Now are you done here, or are you itching to be zotted?

IMHO, I don't want to be "allowed" to do anything! Slaves are "allowed" to live, eat, work, and anything else their masters "allow" them to do.

I have a "right" to carry a gun in any manner I want. This right was protected by the 2nd Amendment.

So the answer to the question, as posed, is "no".

Now, if the question was: "Do you think people should carry guns in public?", we can answer (one way or the other) without the implication that the 2nd Amendment is somehow a "living" concept to be interpreted by our rulers.

Just saying...

As of 13:59 CDT, it was 91%, with 231K votes!

The repsondent answer choices were:

“Yes, the Second Amendment allows it!”
“No, i don’t think so.”
“Only in self-defense.”

The last option was written by a moron, because when do you determine you need to strap it on in time to defend yourself, once you are in that sort of situation??????

You have become more histrionic and aggressive as you’ve failed to persuade your critics and detractors.

Who do you suppose that reminds us of...?

I agree with you, yes it applies to all citizens, no permit needed

The 2nd Amendment is the ‘permit’ and the admonishment to the government to not mess with it:

“the right of the people to keep and —bear— arms shall —not— be infringed”

bear, as in —carry—, have on one’s person.

The gun and the ammo, together.

Well there’s the problem: you don’t want people to be able to “bear,” the guns you’ll deign to let them have.

The restrictions you outline are NOT reasonable.

I cannot understand how anyone on this forum could say that having your ammo locked in your glove compartment and your weapon locked in the trunk is a reasonable restriction on the right to keep and bear arms.

Some carjacker sticks a gun in your face at a red light and what are you supposed to do? Say excuse me while I retrieve my weapon from the trunk and load it so I can shoot you before you shoot me?

This clown claims he has been here on Free Republic since the late 1990's and he thinks like this?

We need to do a better job of educating these idiots.

Just for the record, I have the right to keep weapons to defend myself from God. All the 2nd amendment does is say the government can’t interfere with that right. It doesn’t ‘grant’ me that right.

Re:  We had reasonable restrictions; i.e. ammunition in the glove box and guns in the trunk.

That is the same position of obama/schumer/pelosi.

Congratulations.

Now head on over to DU where you will feel right at home because you certainly do NOT believe in conservative values.

I would say that putting the ammo in the glovebox and the gun in the trunk is

UN-reasonable.

And UN-constitutional.

“I’ll even add to it do you really want everyone to carry a Vulcan machine gun on their car?”

Yes.

Unequivocally, YES.

I'm even for personal nuclear weapons (conceal carry, of course, wouldn't want to spook soccer moms)

Pretty standard liberal behavior.

It’s all “reasonable” until you dare to disagree with them.

Outline how manifestly asinine what they consider “reasonable” is, and they start up the hysterics.

If there’s one thing a liberal is all about, it’s their “superiority.” As such, they NEVER deserve ridicule...no matter how much they’ve earned it.

With regard to the Wild West, I don't think it was the guns, but it was the lawlessness that is portrayed in the movies. I don't know the statistics if in reality the old west was a polite place or a violent place. Or if the rules against guns in town made a difference. But I can understand a single sheriff and a deputy being wary of 20 cowboys coming in for a “good time”.

I think the modern statistics of rural areas allowing open-carry versus cities with gun bans show the disconnect between gun laws and violence and lawlessness.

My dear conservative dad was a hunter, and treated the hunting weapons with care and respect - keeping the guns and ammo seperate. But he didn't see the point in having a handgun - “all those are good for his killing people”.

I would hope if he had lived long enough that I could have convinced him that having a handgun for defense of you or your loved ones isn't a terrible idea. I think if he saw what was happening today (he died 26 years ago) it wouldn't have taken much convincing.

UHHH...Chicago has, always has, all kinds of gun laws. Besides, I don’t remember that shiitehole being part of the ‘Wild West’ after 1808. Maybe you can remember me? Is that why the murder rate is so high today? I don’t think Al Capone killed as many people in his career as Rahm Emmanual has since he was elected Mayor.
