Wall Street Journal: Cruz’s closeness to Trump reveals ‘lack of character’
The Dallas Morning News' Trail Blazers ^ | July 20, 2015 | Sylvan Lane

Sen. Ted Cruz insists he won’t wage “violence” on Republicans–which is part of the reason why he won’t condemn Donald Trump’s comments about immigrants and prisoners of war.

The Wall Street Journal isn’t holding back, though.

The paper’s conservative editorial board slammed Cruz and praised former Gov. Rick Perry for their starkly different responses to Trump’s claim that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., “is only a war hero because he got captured. I like people who weren’t captured better.”

Perry, an Air Force veteran, had one of the quickest and most forceful condemnations of Trump, insisting the real estate mogul wasn’t fit to be commander in chief and should drop out of the race.

But Cruz, who met with Trump last week and has praised him for drawing attention to illegal immigration, defended McCain but refused to comment about Trump.

The Journal’s editorial board wrote Monday that Perry should get “full credit” for criticizing Trump, but said Cruz was “revealing his own lack of political character” and rebuked his reasons for staying out of the fray.

“Mr. Cruz recently released a book whose main theme is an attack on other Republicans,” wrote the editorial board. “It’s central to his campaign strategy. The Texas Senator must be hoping to inherit Trump voters once the casino magnate flames out.”(continued)

Only one alternative: Cruz and Trump flip Rove the bird and go third party Independent. There is no other way.

I applaud your suggestion, however that would be political suicide in any realistic scenario. This is exactly what the left is hoping for and would only accelerate our country's downward spiral. I like to imagine that our grandchildren will have a good chance to experience prosperous happy lives. To ensure this we need to come up with realistic strategies not knee jerk reactions.

Cruz/Trump going third party is the only way Hillary could get elected.

The Wall Street Journal depends on business advertising. Therefore, willingly or unwillingly, it's in the pocket of the liberal business establishment, the liberal Chamber of Commerce, and, as an extension, it caters to the national GOPe headquarters in DC which is funded largely now by liberal businessmen and rich corporate donors....most of whom want amnesty for cheap labor.

The WSJ is NOT a conservative newspaper.

I don't know why you would agonize for one second over cancelling your subscription along with sending a pungent explanation to them along with the written cancellation. Over the years, I have cancelled one newspaper and two magazine subscriptions for my own unashamed ideological reasons even though I enjoyed the publications as much as you enjoy the WSJ.

We all have to make small or large sacrifices these days....and immediately discontinue feeding the hands that are biting us.

If anything we should be working to exploit the fault lines within the democrat party and they have a lot of them.

Democrat politicians are apologizing for suggesting that lives other than black lives matter for Pete’s sake.

The fifth-column leftist media are experts when it comes demonstrating a complete “lack of character,” exceeded only by the fifth-column leftist media’s expertise in giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

Media is simply ‘creating the story’.....as usual facts are not significant.

Anyone who investigated Cruz, knows the man well enough to see the slight of hand....I'm just enjoying the ride....love watching him operate on the road to the WhiteHouse.

....”The WSJ is NOT a conservative newspaper”....

Exactly....but it does have a large readership so how politicians respond to what they print does have some degree of impact on conservatives, who do read it as well as liberals.

I would think that for an ‘Independent’ or ‘Third Party’ run, wouldn’t it be a little late to start? I mean the Dhimmis and Pubbies have decades of contacts and favours to pull. To be successful in a first election, wouldn’t a ‘third party’ have to start almost immediately after the last election to have any hope of defeating the Dems and Pubbies in the next?

When there is blood in the streets, follow the money.

Rove, in my opinion, is completely devoid of honour and integrity.
That he shamelessly suckles at the teat of Bush Inc does nothing to prove otherwise.

In naked, abject cowardice and fear, the RINO/GOPee Party blindly lashes out. Now going after Cruz. They’ve turned themselves into democrats to make sure no conservative wins. The WSJ is the mouthpiece of those DIABLOs (Democrats In All But Label Only). They are not objective observers reporting on what they see. There is no longer any doubt as to whom they serve. They all work for the godless liberals/socialists/communists/marxists/nihilists of the other side. Every. last. one. Anyone they praise serves the other side. I’ve suspected this for some time which is why I gave up my subscription to that bird cage liner and their on line version years ago.

We have both WSJ subscriptions, and although it would be a real shame, I will likely be bringing this up with her. We have paid through another year, already, though.

Bummer, all ‘round.

“Mr. Cruz recently released a book whose main theme is an attack on other Republicans,”

Yeah Cruz had the audacity to print what actually goes on in congress that the members don't want the public to know about

The WSJ article that’s the background for this article might be the most revealing article about the GOP-E’s hatred of Cruz that has yet hit the media. Fortunately, they’re stupid enough to think people will pay to read their drivel, when all one has to do is listen to Fox’s broadcasts to get the group-think that takes place in those jointly-owned media outlets.

They see an opening to strike at Cruz so they take it....a media outlet...not a politician.

Cruz is playing to smart for his own good. Trying to stay neutral in a war where everyone knows you are player is not a wise move. Grow a set Ted and pick a side. GOPe or Trump. Rand Paul needs to grow a set too.

I read that only Santorum has got Trumps back. That surprised me as I always figure Rick Santorum to be an establishment guy.

RINOs are just angry that Trump is playing the bomb-thrower role, and people will probably look to Cruz when Trump’s done his gig.

WSJ liars, his closeness to Trump proves his strength of character, Cruz does not have fair weather friends he stands with Trump because Trump is right, the only way Trump will no longer be a friend is if he wants it that way yet Cruz will still be his congenial self, that is Character very few like WSJ and the MSM understand, they already consider Cruz an enemy, before Trump ever entered the race.

Boldly battling the enemy without and within... CRUZ 2016

I’m convinced that Rove is paying Gomer and Sweater Vest to run. Why would Huckster leave a nice little one-night-a-week television show to run again when he knows there ain’t no way he’s winning the nomination?

Recruitmment was evident from the start. Gomer's job as a "favorite son" is to keep Cruz from winning South Carolina. The Huckster's job is to take evangelical votes away from Cruz in Iowa. Sweater Vest's job is to keep yet more conservative votes from Cruz in Iowa, particularly. Rick Perry may be running on his own...but they're counting on him to split the Texas vote (which comes early this time around, on March 1, Super Tuesday)

The GOPe is attempting to kill the Cruz candidacy via "death from a thousand cuts".

Recall when Murdock bought the WSJ, many thought it would be a breath of fresh air in the MSM, when in fact it is still in the cesspool. Even Fox and Friends opened the AM with Geraldo bashing Trump. Fox with the likes of Rove, Geraldo, Colmes, Juan, Will, Kraut, etc. have made Fox a complete wing of the leftist MSM, just not worth watching anymore.

Substitute GOP for WSJ and you may be onto something here.
