Rick Perry: Trump Is Unfit to Lead the Military, ‘Should Immediately Withdraw’ from Race
Mediaite ^ | 07/18/2015 | Joshua Riddle

Lots of Donald Trump‘s Republican presidential candidates have already shredded him for his comments about John McCain, but Rick Perry came out swinging by calling for Trump to basically GTFO.

In case you missed it, the draft-defering Trump attacked McCain today over his war hero status because, “He’s a war hero ’cause he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”

Now, for some unbelievable reason, lots of conservatives including the aforementioned candidates thought Trump crossed a line.

Perry was the first to release a statement on The Donald’s latest rambling, this one really going for the jugular (emphasis his):

Donald Trump should apologize immediately for attacking Senator McCain and all veterans who have protected and served our country. As a veteran and an American, I respect Sen. McCain because he volunteered to serve his country. I cannot say the same of Mr. Trump. His comments have reached a new low in American politics. His attack on veterans make him unfit to be Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces, and he should immediately withdraw from the race for President.

For the record, when Trump was asked if he plans to apologize, he said no.

Perry isn’t doing himself any favours here.

Johnny was almost an Ace... for the VC. He took down more American aircraft than most of their pilots did.

I won’t vote for him either, but that still does not discount that he is fulfilling a very valuable function right not in helping to identify the dissembling, appeasing equivocating liars in our slate of candidates. Very valuable indeed.

I think Perry should have known better than to get into the race if that is all he has.

About the only two I would vote for at this point. And possibly Rand Paul and Carly Fiorina.

Donald Trump should apologize immediately for attacking Senator McCain and all veterans who have protected and served our country.

So now if you serve in the military, you can't be criticized? Even if you are the one who started the personal attacks?

His attack on veterans make him unfit to be Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces, and he should immediately withdraw from the race for President.

What an absolutely stupid statement.

Why is R. Perry so afraid of D. Trump? Also, he has more than once misquoted (lied about?) Trump’s statements. Same for the media. I am waiting for Perry to attack B. Obama and Ms. Hillary. They are the unfit ones.

I am fully aware of that, but not walking those Comments back and Apologizing will make it even worse...

The Media is going to Warp 9 on this.

Remember, only Democrats can issue non Apology Apologies. If a Republican offers a genuine Heart felt Apology, it is of no concern.

I thought Perry was smarter than this as he is obviously listening to his handlers who have NO experience dealing with a non-politician whose primary concern is not political correctness.

I have now written Perry off as a fitting POTUSA. My brother was killed in WWII fighting man to man against the Japs on Okinawa. He was as much a part of the US WWII victory as McCain’s participation in Viet Nam and even Bush1 in WWII. I speak freely as a WWII vet but only being outfitted on Leyte for the invasion of Japan. I like having real service connected persons in government positions but the real world is bigger. I take to heart and with thoughtful inspection what Trump is telling the US today.

Tump made a stupid statement. Definitely. Perry is going to get much traction on this. He’ll just be echoing the liberal MSM pile-on.

The reason McCainiac was a hero, was because he was associated with a real hero, Colonel Bud Day. Honor, courage, integrity and leadership apparently did not rub off.

Agreed. McCain has long used up any sympathy he gathered from being a POW. He has been positively harmful.

I liked Perry early the last time around. He’s not going to win. He’s just a distraction in the race.
