Fewer Californians got into UC, while offers to foreign students rose
LA Times ^ | July 2nd, 2015 | By Larry Gordon

With the number of UC applicants at a new high, California residents faced tougher odds of gaining acceptance into next fall's freshman classes. A record number of students from other countries and states, meanwhile, received offers of admission.

About 60% of the 103,117 California applicants were offered a spot on at least one of UC's nine undergraduate campuses, according to university figures released Thursday. That appears to be a record low acceptance rate, down from about 63% of the 99,955 applicants last year, and about 79% in 1999, the oldest available systemwide figures.

However, Stephen Handel, UC associate vice president for undergraduate admissions, said that interest is so strong in the public university system that he expects the ranks of California freshmen will remain about the same as in this past school year, even though the 61,834 Californians accepted to UC were about 1,000 fewer than last year. Their ethnic composition continues to shift from whites to more Asians and Latinos.

Illegals are consider valid CA residents and get subsidized education.

If you're a white kid in CA, University of Montana is looking pretty good.

Not sure what this has to do with this article directly, though. It’s the out of state and foreign students, who pay higher tuition (excuse me, “fees”) to subsidize in-state students.

It is based on a simple fact...California residents pay lower tuition than foreign students.

University of Washington here also prefers foreign students and out of state students for the same reasons although they try to cover it up by saying it is for DIVERSITY.

Sorry but you are incorrect! ILLEGALS are considered and treated as SUPERIOR to native born Californians, Americans and legal immigrants.

Taxpayers in California have had to pay for these liberal universities for generations. The ones that have paid for it are being denied access.

Taxpayers were funding these universities for their people — not all these damned foreigners. If they want to have these universities for foreigners, they need to have these foreigners pay for it instead of American taxpayers.

It would receive more attention if the title read, ......

“Fewer BLACKS got into UC, while offers to foreign students rose,

Blacks are being denied too in favor of these foreigners. Where are all the race baiters?

Nope. Alabama is the college to go to. They offer great scholarships!

My daughter didn’t even apply to the UCs, and she got a full out of state tuition scholarship to Alabama. I think she would have gotten in (she got a 35 on her ACT) but UCS are not her thing.

There are 350 freshman from California going to Alabama this year.

Lots of the kids that received the full scholarships didn’t get into the UCs. One girl had a 32 on her ACT, has enough AP classes to be a junior, tons of extracurricular activities, and had to have DBS for a medical condition while she was in college.

And once they graduate they don’t return home, they take jobs in California.

A&M still has auto admit if you have a 30 or higher on your ACT. UCs don’t do that.

As a CSUF graduate, I think that if there are ANY Californians, then other U.S. Citizens, they should, without exception, get in before a single foreign student gets admitted. As a taxpayer, these schools should lose federal funding if they accept a foreign student and turn down an American.

that’s amazing. Other than athletes, Alabama never used to attract many students from outside, well, Alabama. maybe a smattering from the neighboring states.

Who can forget that stirring moment at UCSD graduation this year where an illegal alien waved the mexican flag to thank her American benefactors.

Over 50% of Alabama’s freshman class is out of state.

They are on a mission to raise their academic standing and still serve the students of their state.

Their honors college so far has been very impressive. My daughter got all the classes she wanted and they are all small.

That would not be the case at the UCs. I think she would have gotten the classes she wanted at A&M, but they would be bigger (my son is there).

My granddaughter, born in St. Louis, Mo resided in Costa Rica until she graduated high school. She has dual US & CR citizenship. She was accepted at San Diego State. There were loads of special programs for foreign citizens which she was not eligible for because of her US citizenship. Illegals got in-state tuition while she had to pay out-of-state tuition. Only after living continuously in California for two years (and paying taxes to the Cal Franchise Board) did the college, reluctantly let her pay the in-state rate.
