Defendant in same-sex marriage case attends gay wedding

The defendant in last week’s landmark Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage attended a gay wedding on Thursday.

Rick Hodges, the head of Ohio's Department of Health, was the named defendant in Obergefell v Hodges.

Hodges gave a Bible reading during a wedding between two male friends in Columbus, Ohio, according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer.

“Steve’s been my friend for 25 years, and I am looking forward to celebrating with him,” Hodges said of the ceremony that saw his friends Steve George and Jeff Gatwood married.

“I love my friend,” he added.

Hodges's attendance came just six days after the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is legal nationwide on June 26 in Obergefell v. Hodges. The case combined six lawsuits filed by 32 couples, widowers and children in four states with gay marriage bans.

Jim Obergefell of Cincinnati – the case’s titular plaintiff – was one of several Ohio plaintiffs whose union was not initially recognized by the Buckeye State.

Why would he read a Bible verse during a homosexual fake wedding? It’s fake because two men cannot create a marriage in spite of what the law says. Nevertheless, reading the Bible during the “wedding” makes no sense. The Bible condemns homosexual acts, monogamous or otherwise, as an abomination.

This is disturbing. Hodge was the named defendant (representing the state of Ohio NOT having gay marriages) in the gay marriage case. So he was supposedly defending traditional man-woman marriage.

So it turns out that "our" traditional marriage guy, defending traditional marriage, was and is pro-gay-marriage?

Do you think he threw the case?

Doubtful since his lawyer was AG Mike Dewine who pursued the case all the way through.

Of course, the GOP governor (and presidential candidate) was prominent among the happy guests. His take on gay marriage:
The Ohio governor criticized the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling last weekend but promised he will observe the law going forward.

“I believe in traditional marriage, but the Supreme Court has ruled, and it’s the law of the land, and we’ll abide by it,” he said on June 28.

“And I think everybody needs to take a deep breath to see how this evolves,” Kasich added.

“But I know this, I mean, religious institutions, religious entities, you know, like the Catholic Church, you know, they need to be honored, as well. And I think there’s an ability to strike a balance.”

Didn’t GHWB and “Barb” attend one in ME long before Kasich felt the need to show his face at such a gathering?

Hodges gave a Bible reading during a wedding between two male friends

I wonder if he read Leviticus 18:32 "Thou shall not lie with mankind as with womankind, it is an abomination". Or perhaps Romans 1:26-27 "For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error."

I could cite several other bible passages in both Old and New Testaments condemning homosexual acts as sin, but they all say basically the same things, to wit, homosexual depravity is a sin against God's laws and will be punished accordingly unless the participants stop committing that sin and repent of their wickedness. Repent doesn't mean just feeling sorry that you got caught, it means admit committing the sin and stop doing it.

You’re right. This is not a wedding. All they have done is change the meaning of the word “marriage”. It’s like calling a dog a cat. A dog is still not a cat, no matter what you call it.

The entire idea of marriage is a union of two complementary people. There is nothing like a union in what homosexuals do. Yuck.

Of course he threw the case. This has become very common.

Usually a leftist group sues the EPA or something and are allowed to win $$$ from the taxpayers.

Check: Pigford

This is one way the left gets their funding.

how did hogdes become a defendant in the first place? although, ohio was able to convince an appeals court to keep the ban. that prompted the supreme court to take the case. if the appeals court ruled against ohio, then the supreme court would have not taken the case.
