As Left Wins Culture Battles, G.O.P. Gains Opportunity to Pivot for 2016
NY Times ^ | June 27, 2015 | Jonathan Martin

A cascade of events suggests that 2015 could be remembered as a Liberal Spring: the moment when deeply divisive and consuming questions of race, sexuality and broadened access to health care were settled in quick succession, and social tolerance was cemented as a cornerstone of American public life.

Yet what appears, in headlines and celebrations across the country, to represent an unalloyed victory for Democrats, in which lawmakers and judges alike seemed to give in to the leftward shift of public opinion, may contain an opening for the Republican Party to move beyond losing battles and seemingly lost causes.

Conservatives have, in short order, endured a series of setbacks on ideas that, for some on the right, are definitional: that marriage is between a man and a woman, that Southern heritage and its symbols are to be unambivalently revered and that the federal government should play a limited role in the lives of Americans.

I sympathize, but you had better find another country since failing to vote AGAINST the leftists will result in the US falling into a worse hell than what you are complaining about.

Hard to have much faith in Republicans in congress after seeing how they have not only caved but are actually helping Obama and his agenda despite having the majority.

Can’t wait to hear to we hear how tough they will talk again coming up to the election.

What are we supposed to do, support them again so we don’t lose again? Even when we win, we lose.

The “fall” started a long time ago. It is now accelerating past terminal velocity. Not a damn thing to be done about it except a peaceful secession. And I am dubious that can or will ever happen.

The New York Times hates traditional Americans. Anything they have to say is out and out hate OR it’s ‘concern troll’ hate.

We need to fight our battles very hard at primary time, but we need to all vote AGAINST the leftists in the General.

Amen! That's why there are a few good Pubbies in the Senate now, guys like Cruz, Lee, and (?)Rubio, all of whom beat out RINOs in primaries.

Hey, all because RINOS got the last two GOP presidential nominations doesn't mean that will necessarily happen this time, especially when the RINO vote in the primaries, at least the early ones, figures to be split among several candidates.

BTW, although GOP appointees Roberts and Kennedy proved to be gutless and/or intimidated in their Obamacare and "gay marriage" opinions, it should be noted that all four 'Rat-appointed justices were on the wrong side as well, and (as far as I know) wrote no opinions at all in either case. At the same time GOP appointees Scalia, Thomas, and Alito sharply dissented on both cases.

So it can be fairly said that GOP nominated SCOTUS justices may sometimes stab the conservative cause in the back, but the 'Rat nominated justices will be rubber stamps for radical leftist causes, even if they don't even have to write a word to explain their views. Bottom line: Republican SCOTUS nominees NAY be sleazy, but 'rat SCOTUS nominees ALWAYS are. No guarantees, but you're better off from a probability standpoint taking a chance with a Pubbie as opposed to a 'Rat.

"Our" Side tends to retreat from every issue!

Many want us to retreat Again

They say it's not the right time. (is it ever?)That it is better to wait for the right time than risk everything.

Well, I say this is the right time and we must risk everything, because if we don't.

We've Lost.

We March to Victory, OR We March to Defeat, but we go Forward. Only Forward.

...consider how many of these idiotic Supreme Court decisions are written by justices who were appointed by Republicans.

Yes, but though the opinions may have been written by off-the-wall justices who were appointed by Republicans, bear in mind that there are four robots on the SCOTUS, appointed by Democrats, who may not have written the inane decisions, but reflexively concurred with them. Without the four leftist robots, these would have been MINORITY DISSENTING opinions which would have no practical weight.

The GOP is going to die a quick death after the 2016 election if not before.

I have been coming here for 15 years. Every election cycle I read this headline. And every election cycle things are worse than the last. I am in politics on the local level and I travel to Washington to speak one on one with to our legislators. I have given up all hope that we will change Washington. The answers lie in your States and local communities. I believe there will be some kind of civil war before this is all done. The result will not be good for anyone. I find it somewhat amusing that while gays are dancing in the street while the party they prefer are letting ISIS members into this Country everyday. Only a matter of time before they start doing to Gays what they do in their own Country. But nobody wants to talk about it. I hear the Pope just made a compact with the Palestinians. Oh yay.

The powers that be in the GOP may want to pivot to leftist positions, but their voters aren’t going to follow them.

The GOP has a death wish.

I have to vote against Jebster and Rubberio, then. They are leftists, too.

I read a very good analysis of why this happens with the judges: Dem senators will filibuster ANY real conservative judge should he/she get nominated, so almost all Republican nominees have to be cyphers-—stealth candidates who might, or might not, be conservative. That’s why our batting average is about 33%. But the GOP senators will never filibuster a lib judge, and they all are radicals. So their batting average is 1000. You cannot name one Dem judge, ever, who moved conservative after his nomination.

Suddenly the GOP is the party of “hope and change”. The Democrats are pretty much locked into the status quo.

That's why I put a question mark in parentheses after his name. Still, he's better than most on the GOP side of the aisle in the Senate - which isn't saying all that much.

Good point. It's ironic more than amusing. The whole scenario is surreal and sickening.

But it could be that the 'Rats will have a difficult time holding various elements of their perverse coalition together. Gays are not particularly admired by blacks, Hispanics or Muslims.

I believe there will be some kind of civil war before this is all done.

I'd prefer an Article V convention of the states to propose much needed amendments to the Constitution that will never be proposed by foreseeable Congresses. If that fails, there will be a civil war. No leftist government can survive too long with all the distress it imposes on so many citizens.
