As Pride Week gets underway in Seattle, Mayor Ed Murray unveiled new rainbow crosswalks at several Capitol Hill intersections Tuesday morning.
There are 11 crosswalks on Capitol Hill getting the rainbow treatment -- for a total cost of more than $100,000 according to the city's transportation director. Seven of those were painted and treated overnight and four others will be finished Tuesday night.
The idea has been discussed for some time, but was delayed by logistics and cost. It was initially said that the colorful crosswalks cost about $6,000 for a total of $66,000 for all 11.
The money comes from fee that developers pay when they block streets and sidewalks to build projects, not other safety money.
"You know, it says something about this neighborhood, it says something about Seattle -- this is a city of very diverse neighborhoods throughout, with character and obviously an opportunity to celebrate pride nationally. We hope to celebrate more than sidewalks in the next few days,” Murray said.
All the crosswalks are east of Broadway on Tenth and 11th Avenues.
The crosswalks are expected to last three to five years, but the city said it plans to maintain them for years to come.

I know that the country that I was born in is dead; I don’t see those who destroyed it being able to defend it against those who want to destroy the new freak show they created. The foreign hordes they are importing are not “progressive”; those from the Muslim world make us “traditional” Americans look like pussycats.
I doubt any of my children will be putting on a uniform to represent this new “America” the left has created.
That cost 100 grand? My gosh even taking the stupid subject away, that is a big waste of money and looks ridiculous too.

Probably not in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices....uniform so drivers can easily recognize signage and symbols without distraction - because we’re not a third world hellhole....yet.
I never understood using the rainbow colors. Why don’t the homos use the color brown. It would probably better represent their “activities” and lifestyle choice.
Yes there is a book called the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Frankly, if a car fails to stop and plows over a pedestrian, the city will get sued.
Yeah - I was expecting it to have the colors go the other way - like the broad white stripes do in normal (yes - NORMAL) cross-walks.
It would surprise me if there will be an accident or two at them.

I wonder - are these things just temporary? In a few weeks will they be spending ANOTHER 100 grand to paint them white again?
