Could there possibly be a clearer way to pour salt in to our "deepest wound," than to reverse the over a century old policy of honoring both sides in the terrible war of the 1860s, by purging any honor for one of those sides? The lunacy of some of these political "leaders," may even exceed their other despicable traits--all illustrated by these antics.

As others have observed on various threads, this sort of idiotic surrender to fanaticism is made of the same "intellectual" stuff as the Taliban destruction of statues of Buddha.

Egalitarian revolutions are almost as dangerous for those who dream them up, as for those of us who seek to resist them. Already, it is not just the Southern traditionalist. Any American who would deny the notion that Sodom, Gomorrah or the isle of Lesbos (in the classic world), represented alternative "life-styles," is already under intense attack; as are those who understand that a Nation is not defined simply in terms of geographic place.

In Shreveport, liberals again pushed today for the destruction of the Confederate monument (it’s a pretty ugly monument actually) at the Caddo Parish Courthouse. But the monument is privately owned. Maybe they will seek eminent domain to remove it.
