The U.S. Civil War was a war that never should have been fought. Some 620,000 men died because slavery, an inhumane and evil practice, was permitted in many portions of this country.

Incorrect in the very first sentence. Five Northern states permitted slavery too, but they didn't have to fight a war.

No, the Civil war was fought to stop independence from Washington D.C. The abolition of slavery was not adopted as a goal of the War until over a year after the war had already been started.

Lincoln was going to allow slavery to continue in the South, so it's hard to argue the war was fought because of the evils of slavery. Apparently it was not considered so evil by Lincoln that he wasn't willing to work a deal to allow it to continue.

People have just been taught history that makes them feel good, as opposed to being taught the unpleasant truth.

The war was not primarily about slavery. It was based on states rights as the next one is shaping up to be. Slavery was just the match to the fuel.

Slavery was a bad thing. But the Confederacy was a JUST CAUSE because it asserted the right of states to be sovereign and make their own decisions — including about how various groups should be treated.

I am not a confederate flag lover. But I find it strange what gets removed and what does not.

XXX billboards, even near schools: Not removed
Movies characterizing the assassination of presidents or foreign leaders: Not banned or removed.
Blasphemy against Christianity: Not removed
Blasphemy against Islam: Removed (or at least tried to...should according to liberal doctrine)
Crosses: Removed
Perversity: Not removed but rather celebrated
Cigarette advertisements: Removed
U.S. Flag burning: Not removed/banned
Confederate Flag display: Removed
Pornography all over Internet; Not removed/banned
All sorts of horror on Internet; Not removed
Religious groups: At least watched closely and sometimes labeled as “hate groups” by left
Conservative groups: Same as above

As I have said on other threads, this whole flag issue is being pushed by the Democrats to split the south. The south is solid Republican. If they can divide the south, Hillary has a chance to win.

Doesn't anyone think it's strange that a week ago, the confederate flag was a non-issue. Now (suddenly) several States moving to ban it - Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia and Mississippi. eBay wants to block sales, etc.

It's all happening too quickly for it to be a grassroots groundswell. It has been planned...just waiting for the right time to unleash it.

Patently false! Slavery was practiced legally in the Northern states before, during, and *after* the end of the civil war. (Lincoln’s EP applied to only states in rebellion exclusive of certain parishes in Louisiana.)
