In Raleigh, Donald Trump all but announces presidential bid

Billionaire businessman Donald Trump all but confirmed he’ll run for the Republican presidential nomination during a stop Saturday at the N.C. GOP convention.

Trump says he’ll make his formal announcement on June 16. “I think a lot of people are going to be very happy” with the decision, Trump told The News & Observer before a sold-out speech Saturday night. “They’re tired of watching America go down. ... It’s about making America great again. I can do it, and nobody else can do it.”

He made a point of using the phrase “if I run” in his speech but voiced frustration with a disclaimer: “June 16, will you come, please, fast – I’m so tired of saying that.”

Trump referred to the constantly growing field of Republican candidates as “clowns,” and said former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Sen. Marco Rubio have already made major gaffes.

"Trump offered an alternative plan for the international trade negotiations under way. He said Ford and other companies looking to move manufacturing to Mexico or overseas should face a 35 percent tax when they ship the goods back to the U.S.

Fine. Americans don't need Fords or other fine cars or goods.

That would bring the plants back home, he argued. “That’s what’s going to happen, and there are hundreds, thousands of those deals,” he said. “I will make this country so rich – if I run on the 16th – just you watch.”

The President can't make the country rich. He can only refrain from making it poor, e.g., by following the policies the Donald advocates.

A man with a plan?

Stupid question. The Donald is an inconsequential carnival barker.

Vote for Cruz. Or Walker. Or Perry. Or Rubio. Or Jindal, Paul, or Haley. No need for the likes of the Donald!

Eight more days, until Trump tells us whether he’s in, or he’s out for this election.

My own view is, he’s decided to actually run this time.

We will know, in just over one week.

Donald Trump is running as a Republican.

Ross Perot was splitting the vote, by running in a third party.

Trump is running for the nomication of the GOP. That is a very significant difference.

Good point. I had forgotten that. I was thinking more of the effect on the primaries.

Nope. He’s not running.

Of course he is not running...

Running would mean disclosing his financial records...

Once he does, he will need a cadre of lawyers to cover up his dealings...

He may even put Obama to shame...

How do you know this? The Donald is smart enough to realize that he will never get the GOP nomination. So, he would not invest in a losing proposition. But, his ego is large enough to fancy himself a third party crusader to save the country. I would not be surprised if he announces as an Independent. There are many people in this country who would vote for a third option and would want him on stage for the final debates....the ultimate reality TV with the American people as participants. 34% is more doable than 51%...simple business decision!

“The Donald is smart enough to realize that he will never get the GOP nomination. “

Speak for only your opinion on that.

Trump is the only Republican at the moment, who really fires me up about things.

Nobody else does. There are what, ten candidates thus far? There will be at least five more entering the race, most in the next month.

NOBODY fires me up, the way Trump does. He is all alone.

He is 100% right about so much, as well.

Do not count Trump out of any race. He’s a very formidable opponent, and I don’t see any candidate who will equal him.

There may be someone who will stand up to Trump, but I sure don’t see any sign of him (or her) thus far.

It’s just Trump.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for Mr. Trump. He will have money to spend. And, I would vote for him in a NY minute, over the Hildabeast, or any other Dim. Unfortunately, I think the fix is in for Jeb or Marco on the GOPe side. He would stand a better chance going rogue as an independent, a la Ross Perot. It might mean President Hitlery in the short term, but I think the only chance now for the country might be a third party challenge.
