Meet the Terrible Porn Publisher Behind the Outing of the Duggar Abuse Story

Jill Dillard: "They're used to exploiting women."

In an interview with Fox News host Megyn Kelly that ran on Friday, two of the Duggar daughters who were victims of their brother’s inappropriate sexual touching called out the magazine that illegally released the records that not only revealed the identity of their brother Josh (who was a juvenile at the time), but also indirectly identified the victims.

Jill Dillard, the second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, told Kelly that she suspected there might be an agenda behind the story. “I mean, I know that the tabloids that released this, even have — you know, they’re used to exploiting women. They have the parent company –”

“Well, Bauer…they’re a major porn provider…” her sister Jessa Seewald interrupted.

“So I don’t know if they are — maybe their mindset, they’re just used to making objects out of women and maybe we just didn’t seem any different,” Seewald continued.

Jill and Jessa are members of the conservative Christian family that has been featured in the reality TV series 19 Kids and Counting, and the young women are spot on about the background of the company that publishes In Touch magazine.

Bauer Media Group, based in Hamburg, Germany, publishes 600 magazines, over 400 digital products, and 50 radio and TV stations around the world, including In Touch magazine, the publication that uncovered the story of the abuse in the Duggar home. They also traffic in porn — some of it Nazi-themed., as you’ll see on the next page.

The Wrap reported in 2013:

But an investigation by TheWrap has found that there is a darker side to the privately held company, including publication of at least one magazine appealing to neo-Nazis, as well as significant involvement in the distribution of pornography — including Nazi-themed porn movies.

These lend perspective to Bauer’s legal woes in the United States, including a $50 million defamation lawsuit by Tom Cruise, filed last October after two U.S.-based publications alleged he’d abandoned his daughter Suri. In fact, Bauer generates dozens of legal complaints worldwide each year about invasion of privacy or libel, according to a lawyer who has frequently opposed them.

The Duggar sisters are absolutely correct. In Touch and Bauer Media Group make money, in part, by exploiting women and trafficking in content that sexually objectifies women. The young women in the Duggar family who were victims of sexual abuse by their brother were victimized a second time by a magazine that treated them, not as accidental collateral damage in their honest efforts to report a legitimate news story, but as an integral part of a business model based on sexual exploitation of women. They exploited the sexual abuse suffered by the Duggar sisters for money, pure and simple. And they’ve done it with countless other women over the years. Disgusting.

“A judge ruled not just that the records should have been sealed, he (she) ruled for them to be destroyed.”

And the state complied and destroyed the records that were in their custody to be destroyed.

However, the judge did not order that every copy of that record outside of police custody be destroyed.

What makes you believe I hate the Duggars?

Your posting history

HERE

Certainly shows a virulent obsession with Duggar's sins. Rarely have I seen a member ping page filled up with one subject in this manner.

As folks should have learned from the Catholic fiasco, you don’t cure child molesters. This story isn’t likely to end well.

In 2009, Arkansas lawmakers revised the state code to provide additional protection for juvenile records. The law very clearly states that “all records are closed and confidential,” except for a handful of narrowly tailored exceptions. And most records are expunged by the time the juvenile turns 21, according to the code.

But the Duggar case never made it into the juvenile court system, or any court system, for that matter. The alleged crimes occurred in 2002 and 2003, but the police investigation did not occur until 2006. By that time, Josh Duggar was already an adult at age 18, so the state code covering the confidentiality of juvenile records would not apply to this case, legal experts have said.

If the Duggars were to pursue legal action, they’d have an uphill battle, experts say. Journalists and advocates for public information consider Arkansas’s open records law to be one of the nation’s best. The Arkansas state attorney general even describes it as one of “the most comprehensive and strongest” public records laws in the United States.

That means that there are very few legal exemptions for public officials to withhold documents. And if officials don’t comply with the law, they can face misdemeanor charges and fines. Just Thursday, for instance, the director of a Little Rock housing authority was found guilty of failing to comply with FOIA.

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press provides a comprehensive guide on state-by-state open records laws for disclosing police records. In Arkansas, one of the most common exemptions for the release of law enforcement records concerns those related to ongoing criminal investigations. But that exemption would not be applicable in the Duggar case, as the investigation ended in 2006 after authorities determined the statute of limitations had expired for any possible crimes.

In 1997, Arkansas passed a Victim Rights Law that prohibits the release of a victim’s address or telephone number under FOIA. But since the victims’ names and gender were scrubbed from the police report, there appears to be no violation of that law, attorneys say.

I just find it odd there are conservatives who are willing defend a family that condondoned four of their daughters being molested.

‘cuts both ways’?

is this a major concern for the country?

allegations that ‘family condondoned molestation of four daughters’?

I would call that venom

Dig the stream of consciousness.

The truth is that the only reason we know about this is that the family has a tv show and, most importantly, it actually happened.

The defense is becoming more and more venomous by the day. The father and mother blamed the gay agenda, the daughters the porn industry. Ludicrous.

Oprah knew about it before then so who knows who told whom first?

Porn is a debatable moral issue. I don’t have a problem with it but I can see how it could be addicting or maybe some men could prefer it to real sex with real women. Like food, it could be used for good or evil. I also worry about women being coerced or forced into making it, but most are there willingly.

THERE IS NOTHING DEBATABLE ABOUT CHILD MOLESTATION. No matter what brainwashed victims say. Remember that Wade Robeson took the stand in Michael Jackson’s trial to say he was never molested, when now to poor man has come clean to say he was raped for years by Michael. This is why there should be no statute of limitation on child molestation. It would save other children. It takes a long time for adults to come to terms with the truth about what happened to them. They don’t know what to believe for a long time, or they simply lie to themselves that it even matters.

That these victims are trotted out to point fingers is really, really disturbing. Maybe Josh should have been given some porn at 13... Said with tongue in cheek because if people are sexually aroused by children I doubt adult sex would be much of a deterrent.

WHY do you hate the Duggars so much.....I think I know.

No one hates the Duggars.

I hate liars and phonies, because they fool good people like you. I never knew anything about the Duggars before this scandal except the rough number of kids and their laundry detergent.

This story has brought out the very worst in FReepers.

It is very upsetting to me.

How can anyone excuse evil just because they share your religion? Wasn’t Son of Sam Jewish? Am I supposed to defend him? It’s just NUTS.

Lying to protect molesters, leaving the victims to work for their abuser, and the abuse itself is NOT EXCUSABLE. Not by Muslims, Buddists, Jews, Atheists, or Christians.

Bauer is irrelevant, jast as is complaining that the NRA goes after gun-control groups. It’s what they do.

I agree.I have seen it on this forum.

People so caught up in the hysterics, if you so much as hint, that you don't want Josh Duggar executed, you get accused of condoning what Josh did and being against the victims.

Alinsky RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)

Not so much condoning as minimizing it and saying it doesn’t matter now. Plus the accusations by the defenders are also over the top.

Does all this mean that Josh did not touch his sisters’ vaginas?

He was 14. He admitted what he did and that it was wrong. He faced his sisters and they had multiple levels of family therapy.

Obviously, you think that is all inadequate. So okay, you get to have absolute power here - go ahead. Take that power with both hands, right now. What would you do? Tell us. Would you have him executed? Would you have all of them executed? Beaten? Raped? Imprisoned for life? What would satisfy you? What is justice, in this case, to you? What level of duress, for how long, to what level of examination and testing, would you require?

Go ahead, here's your chance. Tell us. Don't be vague - tell us exactly what would finally satisfy you. You want him dead, just say so. Show a little honesty, show a little courage. Speak truth to power.

What do you want?

Not excusing the abuse.

The FReeper backlash is ugly.
The most virulent posters sure seem to be working out personal issues.
