IRS Says Thieves Stole Tax Info From 100,000

Thieves used an online service provided by the IRS to gain access to information from more than 100,000 taxpayers, the agency said Tuesday.
The information included tax returns and other tax information on file with the IRS.
The IRS said the thieves accessed a system called "Get Transcript." In order to access the information, the thieves cleared a security screen that required knowledge about the taxpayer, including Social Security number, date of birth, tax filing status and street address.
"The IRS notes this issue does not involve its main computer system that handles tax filing submission; that system remains secure," the agency said in a statement.
The IRS said thieves targeted the system from February to mid-May. The service has been temporarily shut down.

Does that mean they made my tax payment?
They would need quite a bit of information including SS#’s, birth dates, prior year income in order to access. This was not the initial intrusion.
So if someone steals my identity and it can be4 traced to this...... WHO THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO SUE?

Prediction: A new group will make calls to taxpayers claiming they are the IRS and that their information was compromised and they need to verify their identity.
The targeted ones. Why mess with people who don’t have money. Only 10% actually pay taxes. Most of the rest get a subsidy of some kind.

The IRS does worse to 300 million people a year.
Surely more than 10% No?
I would not put it past the i.r.s. to leave taxpayer identity info on an outside door step on a regular basis.
I would be surprised if it was only 100,000.

A while back in CT some employee for the ObamaCare exchange left a backpack full of personal info on a bus or something like that. Of corse it was a “accident” and he didn’t mean to.
I heard Hannity mention this tonight and thought for sure it was a lead-in to one of his commercials.
This really, really sucks. It's yet another indicator of how utterly incompetent the federal government has become under Obama.

Don’t tell that to the myrmidons here whom wish to re-visit the Patriot Act/NSA/etc. upon us. The screed to ‘prove a negative’ (IE: how has it effected YOU and your Rights) is already upon us.
