This Sunday, Oprah is sitting down with the renowned Al Sharpton to discuss how his work as a Civil Rights leader has changed over the years, why he made the decision to get healthy and his beginnings as a preacher. Stuff we probably already knew or wouldn’t be too surprised to learn about Al Sharpton. But in a surprising revelation, Sharpton talks about the moment that changed his life: his father leaving his family, taking Sharpton’s older, half sister with him and having a child with her. Yes, you read that correctly. And yes it was a complete a hot mess.

Lack of fathers remains the #1 problem in the Black community.

Ask Dan Quayle. Remember the firestorm he endured when he criticized Hollywood for putting on a TV show about a career woman, who intentionally had a baby out of wedlock??? Holy smokes, was he chastised or what!!! You rarely anyone talk about this subject, and I wonder if politicos, as well as others, are afraid to touch the subject of absence of fathers in the lives of children.

Why is he apparently in no legal trouble with his tax liability?

Im not at all surprised to discover what sort of “family” he grew up in.

Yeah, I remember the Dan Quayle-Murphy Brown kerfuffle. He was right then, and it remains right today (ironically, well, hypocritically, the same Hollyweird libs that attacked him, some conceded within a decade he “might’ve had a point”). Politicians should be unafraid to tackle this subject.
If Zero had been a real political leader, this should’ve been one of his preeminent causes. Restoring the importance of fathers and fatherhood in the Black community would go a long way into resolving their social pathologies that have been manifest for over a half-century.
