Josh Duggar, one of the members of the family that stars in TLC's "19 Kids and Counting" ... was the subject of a police investigation for allegedly sexually molesting 5 girls, some of whom are his sisters.
The story was broken by In Touch Weekly, but TMZ has confirmed with law enforcement that Josh Duggar -- who was around 14 at the time -- was the alleged molester against 5 girls starting in 2002.
According to the police report, Josh fondled the genitals and breasts of the girls, some of whom were sleeping, but sometimes they were interacting with him ... in one case reading a book.
There was another reported incident 9 months later.
According to the police report, the police were not immediately contacted. Instead, Jim Bob, the dad, met with church elders and agreed Josh should be put in a treatment program. The police report says Josh's mom, Michelle, said it wasn't really a treatment center ... they simply sent Josh to a guy who was remodeling a building to do manual labor.
In 2006, the family was scheduled to appear on "Oprah," and before the show someone sent an email to Harpo warning that Josh had molested girls. Harpo forwarded the email to a hotline, which triggered a police investigation.
Cops wanted to question Josh, but Jim Bob lawyered him up and Josh declined the invitation.
Josh, who is now 27, apparently cannot be charged because the statute of limitations has run.
As for the Duggars, one of the family members told investigators, "this entire incident had brought the family closer to God" ... this according to the police report.

Really,Didn’t read the article.It says all that?How can any Mother and Father put their family on reality TV knowing this past history of their son.They set their children and viewers up for a fail.With a message TV show comes responsibility.So in the end for them it was not the Message but the money.I have done TV with my kids.We had a lot of fun and the young people who worked with us.When my daughter was offered a reality show I advised her to turn it done.Too much pressure on the kids.She did.Your family comes first and I think they should cancel the show.
I disagree that Joshua Duggar is getting the consequences he's earned.
He should not be allowed around children ever again, let alone live in the same house with them.
You are particularly on point about how this is brutal for the victims of Joshua Duggar that we know about.
I hope those victims can take some solace that this revelation may prevent others from suffering at the hands of Joshua Duggar - that it may help their nieces and their own children.
Oh I know what the parents should do, and should have done. What Josh’s “wife” should have done.
First and foremost, the protection of all children.
From what I have read, Mom’s/Dad’s reaction was WRONG.
If I were their daughters, I’d wonder why Mom/Dad did what they did.

Being a victim myself as a child, I know the lifetime impact. I NEVER would allow my kids to be alone/around someone who had done that.
I do wonder though, if he had been sent to juvenile court at 14, would sex offenses have been expunged at 18? Molesting isn’t “normal” in any sense.

In this case the fact that Joshua Duggar and his parents conspired to victimize children that they were supposed to love and protect has gotten in the way of the fantastic story that the Duggar adults are decent human beings.

You made a moral equivalence between the behavior of a person who victimizes adults and the behavior of a person who victimizes toddlers.
Then you made another statement saying that a 50 year old who sleeps with willing 25 year olds is more culpable than a 14 year old who assaults toddlers.
Your moral worldview, as evidenced by those two statements, is incoherent and sinister.
Hope that the siblings will not leave their children alone or around Josh. I’m assuming the show is a goner now. Perhaps since they won’t be getting a paycheck from the show, and Jim Bob’s career as a “minister” will head South, the changes that need to happen, will happen since the pressure to be there together for the show hopefully will be over.
Mom’s/Dad’s reactions happen in too many families in which the molester is a family member. The victim is further victimized and shamed. Disgusting. The “secret” is kept to keep the perpetrator safe.
Josh Duggar is a child molester, and you are making excuses for him based on your theological ineptitude.

They opted to enter into the public domain to tell their family story and to “share” their faithfilled lives. Much has been made of the “no hand holding” purity of their kids...yet the parents KNEW their son Josh had profound, multiple incidents. With his sisters (their own daughters)!
Why did they do this? None of know the hearts of Jim Bob and Michelle, but a superficial guess on my part->MONEY!
THIS is so sordid. He violated his own sisters. More than once...yet no mention of the girls, what this breach of trust did to them, how they are doing going forward. It’s like the daughters had to be sacrificed for the family “business” reality TV.
The Duggars need to call it a day publicity wise. Quite the show (no doubt TLC has morality clauses in their contracts). And get some good Christian psychological counseling AWAY from their church (the same church they had a pedophile Minister). Josh needs a profound measure of therapy and his own daughters should not be left alone in his care. This is serious, life altering, criminal activity that Josh Duggar GOT AWAY WITH aided by this parents for the sole purpose of looking at those dollar signs.

I don’t accept “curiosity” as an excuse for Josh Duggar nor for that Dunham chick with her younger sister as her victim of Lena’s “curiosity”.
At the time of the police report in 2006, the victims ‘had forgiven Josh’. I don’t think that minor children should have been asked to ‘forgive’ their abuser, nor am I sure a victim that is so young can ‘forgive’ sexual abuse?
Maybe his urges have been stifled by his beliefs, but I wouldn’t take a chance that he’s one of the 5% that won’t repeat.

I’ve never seen the Duggar’s TV show. I have no desire to see it. Yet, by definition, those posting here are frequenters of the internet. And keep up with current events. Its difficult to believe someone frequently online who keeps up with the goings on in this world would have never heard of the Duggars. Yet, if you are offended by my light hearted comment, then I humbly beg your apology.
Jesus indeed will forgive him if he has truly asked Him for it. However I am not required to do so and neither are his sisters.
Incest is a pretty serious offense. So is molestation of a child. I don’t believe there is a cure for pedophilia. It is usually managed by keeping the perpetrator away from children. Those poor girls were required to live with their attacker for years while their parents hid it from the public. I don’t believe any of those children received any kind of counseling except to consult with church elders and send Josh out to work re-modeling houses with a family friend.
The father claims to control the girl’s lives restricting what they wear, where they go, who they “court” etc. under the pretense of protecting them but then allows a predator who lives under his roof to live with them. Does that not bother you?
I do not know if Josh will ever molest a child again but is his wife willing to gamble with her daughter? I wouldn’t. Would you want Josh to babysit or marry YOUR daughter?
These girls lives have been changed forever. It is not like Josh simply got drunk and naked at a frat party. This is not a simple teenage prank. He wasn’t just caught smoking pot.
Yes, all of us have been young once and perhaps did a few things we’d like to forget. Not many of us can count incest and child molestation as one of our teenage missteps. This is not a victimless crime. I’m not concerned one whit about Josh. Let God deal with him. I do have great sympathy however for his victims.
Moreover, you would think that after something as shameful as what Josh did he would want to keep a low profile. I would think the entire family would want to. Instead they went on television and exposed their lives for everyone to see. And so did Josh. He accepted a job, keeping his past from them, as a representative of a Christian family activist group. Does that sound like the actions of someone who is truly sorry and ashamed for what he did?
