I agree with you 100 percent!
They opted to enter into the public domain to tell their family story and to “share” their faithfilled lives. Much has been made of the “no hand holding” purity of their kids...yet the parents KNEW their son Josh had profound, multiple incidents. With his sisters (their own daughters)!
Why did they do this? None of know the hearts of Jim Bob and Michelle, but a superficial guess on my part->MONEY!
THIS is so sordid. He violated his own sisters. More than once...yet no mention of the girls, what this breach of trust did to them, how they are doing going forward. It’s like the daughters had to be sacrificed for the family “business” reality TV.
The Duggars need to call it a day publicity wise. Quite the show (no doubt TLC has morality clauses in their contracts). And get some good Christian psychological counseling AWAY from their church (the same church they had a pedophile Minister). Josh needs a profound measure of therapy and his own daughters should not be left alone in his care. This is serious, life altering, criminal activity that Josh Duggar GOT AWAY WITH aided by this parents for the sole purpose of looking at those dollar signs.
Shameful.
We attend a fundamental baptist church and while Jim Bob and Michelle’s handling of the situation was wrong, I’m not sure money was the motivation. Fundamental baptists usually believe that all, and I mean ALL, psychology is rooted in unbiblical teaching so is not a way to solve a sin in one’s heart. Thus, sin issues are dealt with in house, not with outside help.
We had our daughter go to counseling as her anxiety was leading to OCD behaviors and we couldn’t help her. We’ve never told our pastor or his wife. Didn’t need the reminder that prayer and discipline is enough.
The Duggars probably thought that since sin is a heart issue it could be dealt with through prayer and God’s word alone. God’s word is sufficient, but denying outside help, especially after seeing a pattern of behavior, is terribly misguided. It’s hard to be objective about your own kids and they were unable to step back and see it for what it was.
