Except the police weren’t terrified, stupid DM headline. This is a regular UK occurrence, remember most of the UK is still countryside. People all over the UK deal with this every day.

The police in the Lee Rigby case were called and arrived with 3m, nobody told them the men were armed, so armed units arrived in 9m. Sadly the lad had been hacked to death on a shopping street in seconds. People, inc men, tried to intervene, but were attacked themselves.
Armed police arrived and shot the men. Both of whom are now locked up for their whole lives, one in a mental hospital.
