Could the conversation between Bostian and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority engineer be true? If such a conversation occurred, was is by cell phone instead of the train’s radio? Was the conversation itself the distraction? It would be good to know if Bostain was alone at the controls or were there others in that control room? What did they observe and, if they were there, why did they fail to take action?

I understand that cell phone distraction has led to other locomotive accidents, and that freight trains now have cellphone jammers. That would not fly on Amtrak, however, with its passengers who would riot if they could not use their cellphones.

If “sexting” were an issue here I think we’d hear about it sooner or later. The train had come out of a 70 mph segment of straight track and should have slowed to the 50 mph limit of the curve, instead it accelerated to the 100 mph that threw it off of the curve.

I firmly believe that LBGTQ....... people are emotionally/mentally disturbed. It is reasonable to assume that they will behave in abnormal, possibly dangerous ways. For this reason, I prefer to limit my interaction with them.
