The north east corridor is mostly electricfied, it’s not until you get into Union Station in D.C. that they have to switch engines and put a diesel on the train to go on the south line from Washington to Florida.

Of their analasyes of the engine cab recordings of the communications between the engineer and dispatcher shows that there was none, there was no reports or indication from the engineer that any or a projectile(s) hit the train.... None.

The cars were being pulled by a Amtrak Cities Sprinter ACS-64 Electric Locomotive by Siemens. That tells me it runs on an electrified line. Here is one from the side view:

Looks like there is only ONE engineer seat, according to specs. After the whole business of not leaving a pilot alone on the flight deck, it looks like train engineers (at least on this type) are almost always alone.
