Update: Police have now said the boy who will be charged with the dog beating death is 10-years-old, not 11.
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) Residents in one Fort Worth neighborhood are shocked after Cookie, a Cavalier mix, was allegedly beaten to death.
Police said an 11-year-old boy chased Cookie out of the pets back yard with a stick, eventually cornering him on a porch then killing him.
According to the Cookies owner of five years, Jennifer Knittel, a concerned neighbor was key in figuring out what happened to the dog. Knittel said while she wasnt home, a neighbor driving by noticed something strange.
She saw my two dogs hiding under a pickup next door with a kid, an 11-year-old kid, kicking at them, trying to get them to come out from underneath the car, she said.
Knittel said the witness felt like she should drive back around and question the boy.
She said, Did you hurt that dog? And he said, No, its sleeping,' she said.
Ultimately, a blow to the head killed Cookie, cracking his skull and severing his spine.
The boy told police the dog attacked him.
Knittel said the witness told her Cookie didnt provoke the brutal attack.
I dont think weve ever heard cookie even growl. So for someone to attack Cookie it doesnt make any sense to me, she said. My dog was not aggressive. The little boy has no scratches or marks of any kind on him.
CBS 11 tried to speak with the parents of the boy the witness said was involved, but a man inside the childs house refused to speak.
I just want justice for Cookie, Knittel said.
The family is working with a private investigator to get justice and police said felony charges are expected to be filed against the boy.
Yes, future serial killers of America. Its called psychosis. Incurable. Hope Mom and Dad lock their bedroom door at night. :-)
No kidding...
You enjoy contemplating the rape of a 10-year-old boy, do you?
My first thoughts too.
I’ve read that helping such a child, under supervision of course, learn to take care of animals can generate a sense of compassion in the person.
It’s hard to tell the difference now.
I’d bet this wasn’t the first time this kid abused an animal, or even a smaller child. And I agree with earlier posts that he is probably incurable, at least at this time. I suspect it will only get worse. The kid needs to be institutionalized pronto!!
Heartbreaking for the dog...and the child, too, who no doubt has had a dysfunctional home life. No conscience, and anger within. I am sure he must have been beaten, also. Prisons are full of these grown up boys with this anger within. Too bad people don’t have to take a test before having children, and many homes do need monitoring. Some...too many... are a living hell for children.
So, I do blame the parents and why weren’t they watching him? A 10 year old should not have such freedom without being watched. And, I bet the parents don’t have him in scouting or sports and other constructive activities.
If this kid is just 10 years old and is this screwed up:
1. I doubt he will achieve adulthood unless he is in jail.
2. I feel sorry for anyone who may have occasion to interact with him.
The fact he claimed the dog was just sleeping tells us he knew what he was doing.
I feel sorry for the kid that his parents have let him get this screwed up.
Something is wrong between the child and God, and that is the root of the trouble.
It is not categorically “incurable” — if it were, the Lord’s salvational promise would be a lie. But the journey entailed on the way back to spiritual health can be hard and rough.
I doubt scouting or sports would help this boy.
He’s either extremely mentally ill (and dangerous), or just evil. Maybe possessed.
I wouldn’t want him around any kids of mine.

Nutty
10 years old
Wonder what someone did to him?
Or just born mean....bad mean....it happens
I saw a 17 year old kill a kitten when I was 12
He tossed it high in the air under the street lamp
Splat
It was sickening ...we wanted to cry but couldn’t show weakness And the murderer had saved me that same summer from a beating from downtown hoods who ventured out to skull our neighborhood girls one who was 14 and kinda put out...
When the older boys left we youngers took the kitty and buried it in the swamp
I still remember the piss smell....a wee mackerel tabby
That poor little 5 year old girl looked for her kitty next day....it was a working class white neighborhood with some bad seeds
That boy got drafted for Vietnam later that year with a John Wayne attitude and within weeks got his foot blowed off
....I can hear freeper applause from my front porch
If he had been my 17 year old, he’d have found out he wasn’t too big to get the beating of his life.
There would have been plenty of red flags before this happened. You would have been a very blind mother if it had to come to such a juncture.
Yep
Nobody told on him
He was scary
Not a Gentle Giant
Kind of a bittersweet story because it sounds like if he hadn’t been around, you might not be living either. The kitten would have lived; you been 6 feet under.
We see evil run rampant and wonder what to do.
God doesn’t wonder, but we can’t track the intricate details. Maybe the Vietnam event was part of a salvational school of hard knocks that ended at God’s door. We look at piteous things in this world and only see their earthly measure.
Better get that kid some psychological help.
May not happen. He's reputedly from a 'good family'. Unless the victim is of equal social status, it will just be swept under the rug.
“...Future serial killer? ...”

No, future law enforcement officer.
