Vanity: What is the politics behind the failure of the Pacific Free Trade Agreement?
Free Republic ^ | May 13, 2015 | Piranha

What is the political back-story to the Pacific Free Trade Agreement? I was not following this story, and I see that it is tearing Congressional Democrats away from Obama.

Specifically: 1. Why is the Pacific Free Trade Agreement such a high priority for Obama's Second Term? 2. Why did so many Democrats oppose Obama on this bill? 3. Why did so many Republicans support Obama on this bill?

It is 1) a “secret” treaty that Obama wanted nobody to look at, and 2) all about outsourcing even more jobs to Asia.

Same as Obamacare from what I understand, have to pass it to know what is in it...all the best bills are passed this way.

It opens the doors to a new flood of illegal immigrants...the Chamber of Commerce and the GOPe support this.

It is also rumored that it includes UN style Gun and ammunition control.

Democrats are more principled than Republicans — at leas the ones in the Senate now. They have wrong principles but they stick by them. Republicans I hate to think but...seem like they are for sale to the highest bidder. Or they have been blackmailed. Something is very wrong with them.

It is possible that the democrat defection is just drama to trick republicans into speaking out for something that will end up biting them in the behind. Are democrats that sneaky? I think so.

Overall it is crazy to trust Obama on this. Look where his passions lie. It can be nothing but bad. Why the secrecy?

Congress has become Let’s Make A Deal. Do you want what is behind door number one, door number two, or door number three? Of course in their case every door is a booby prize.

It wasn’t far enough to the left for the democrats.

But republicans showed their true colors by supporting it.
They should have voted 100% against it.

In six months republicans have killed all the momentum that voters displayed during the last election.

Democrats don’t have to work hard to damage republicans in the senate - they just stand back and let the republicans self destruct.

It apparently contains a free mobility of labor provision that works out to unlimited immigration. A straight up-or down vote will grant Hussein any damned thing he wants in that agreement because enough Republicans will vote with the Democrats to pass it, whatever is in it and it is a McConnell special project to begin with so whatever Hussein wants Hussein will get. The Democrats who are opposing it now will come around for the vote because the agreement will include something that promises to strengthen unions.

Hussein already has his Enabling Act courtesy of the hard work of McConnell and Boehner, his Senate and House czars in December. The trade bill will build on that and possibly be the back foot stepping over the mussolini line.

Anytime the GOP vote with Obama it seems they are falling for a “rope a dope” strategy. I remember the original Sequester budget cuts were designed to get Republicans to approve yet another massive spending bill. They now get blamed for those “heartless budget cuts.” This latest debacle will not end well.

Obama is ineligible to be President of the United States. Japan knows Obama is ineligible to be President of the United States and understands the implications of an ineligible President assuming the Office of the President of the United States.

Japan must assume responsibility for defending itself militarily. America, as a constitutional republic, is being transformed. Obama is graciously offering to sell the military equipment Japan needs to defend itself. Since Obama is ineligible, any international agreements signed by Obama are subject to a challenge. If the challenge is successful, the agreement will be voided. Japan could spend billions on military equipment with no support or spare parts.

Japan is between a rock and a hard place. Japan needs the United States military hardware and will have to pay dearly for it. They could get stuck will obsolete equipment without future support if Obama’s ineligibility is exposed and his agreements are voided.

We don’t really know what’s in it, but everything I’ve heard is bad.

What’s really disconcerting is the Democrats in R jerseys are working harder for Obama on this than the real Democrats.
