Rick Perry will decide on a White House run in 30 days (Truncated title)
Daily Mail ^ | 9 MAY 2015 | David Martosko

FULL TITLE:

Rick Perry will decide on a White House run in 30 days, telling South Carolinians that 'it's not that difficult' to secure the US-Mexico border and the White House battle is really about the Supreme Court

* Insisted Barack Obama has failed because he had to learn executive leadership 'on the job'

* Said the next president could dictate the course of religious-freedom laws by choosing ideologically driven Supreme Court justices

*Spoke to a standing-room crowd of 150 at a BBQ joint near Greenville, SC

* Suggested he would devolve more control to state governments as president

Former Texas Governor Rick Perry isn't ready to launch his second presidential campaign, but a final decision will come within a month, he told a standing-room-only crowd crammed into Dickey’s Barbecue Pit near Greenville, S.C. 'I am a prospective candidate,' he said. 'I'm not going to announce that I'm running tonight. I'm going to make an announcement in the next 30 days.' In a freewheeling interview with a local radio host, Perry explained that the nation's recent fascination with social issues like gay marriage and religious freedom will ultimately be resolved in the U.S. Supreme Court.

That, he said, puts added emphasis on the 2016 presidential race.

Those who can, do.

Those who can’t, teach.

Those who can’t teach, run for office.

Rick, I love ya, man. You were a great governor.

In this election cycle, though, my friend, you’re outclassed and outgunned by multiple candidates.

Retire to Round Top and live the good life. You have earned it.

But please do NOT run for POTUS.

If I had it my way, every illegal in this country would be rounded up, placed on a leaky boat and sent back home. But I don't think that will happen.

So if I could see a candidate who will secure the border and make life so unpleasant here, the illegals will go home on their own (and tell their friends back home not to come here), I would be OK with that. I believe Ted Cruz has expressed something similar.

Too many candidates are beholden to the Chamber of Commerce and other entities with a vested interest in keeping the tide of illegals flowing in. And even if we have a President who would deal effectively with the illegals, Congress is full of bought and paid for representatives who won't cooperate. Dealing with this issue will take more than a tough President. There has to be some spiritual awakening in both houses of Congress too.

yeah wow. it’s a bad situation all around.

Cruz would get squeezed so hard, and like my aunt said, “we are all guilty of using them for cleaning, yard work, construction, and on and on”

She is right, at least up here.

Interesting. Looking at this thread, it seems most of the Perrybots have gone into hiding. I remember when he first announced, they kicked Michelle Bachmann to the curb and hyped this guy endlessly for months as the "anti-Romney" candidate and reincarnation of Reagan (scary, isn't it?) Some lunatic Romneybots would even accuse anyone who questioned La Raza Rick's conservative credentials of being closet Romney supporters. We really didn't get rid of the Perrybots until he dropped out and it seemed about 85% of them became Newtbots (which was even more bizarre... overnight they went from 'debates don't matter' to 'debates are the ONLY thing that matters!'). The scary thing is that Perry actually looked good next to Newt (at least Perry is a decent family man in his private life, while being a mediocre political hack in his public life...)

I hope this means his 2016 bid will fizzle even quicker. I predicted in 2012 that the only thing he's accomplish was to muddy up the field more and divide the conservative base, and I was right.

The real problem isn't with obvious RINO establishment candidates like Jeb Bush, but lousy "conservative" establishment candidate that distract attention away from the real conservative leaders.

I like Rick Perry a lot. But, his failure to take control of his border with his national guard and state police brings him up short on my presidential list.

Yeah, they're hiding. Just like they hid when their hero said Hillary was a "great secretary of state".

And just like they hid when their hero endorsed Mitch McConnell for reelection.

But you can bet they'll be out celebrating when their pro-amnesty hero announces he is running his next failed campaign.

I never cared for him, since slick phonies like him come a dime a dozen down here in the South. Most usually had the common courtesy to remain Democrats.

Not seeing a lot of positive feedback on this thread lol. Don’t know much about the man. Figured if he’s from Texas he’s ok.

Nothing wrong with Governor Perry. Despite all the naysaing, he's a solid conservative who would've made a great president --in 2012. Unfortunately for the country, while starting strong and catapulting to the lead, he made some ill-advised blunders on the campaign trail and saw his numbers plummet, torpedoing his campaign.

Today, he is past his prime. Best he stay out of the race and throw his full support behind the conservative candidate with the best chance of winning. Though I suspect he'll endorse Jeb.

I agree. I like Rick Perry and I was hopeful for him in 2012 but his momentum is zero at this moment. We have other candidates for 2016. I hope he sits it out.

I like that he’s said he would get rid of the Departments of Education and Energy along with the EPA. I got the feeling that he is one guy who would actually do it. But the border issue is a deal breaker for me.

President Reagan tried to get rid of Education just two years after it was created (when it was subdivided from HEW into two parts, the other being Health & Human Services), but was wholly unable to. There’s never been a department abolition in the history of the country (although Navy, which was a full-fledged Cabinet Office at the start of the nation, was merged with the Department of War after the end of WW2 into Defense, although “Secretary of the Navy” still exists, but is a sub-department under Defense).
